LPC 2011: Dark Angels Company Veterans

This is the first WIP shots of my x5 Dark Angels Company Veterans. I'm not the world's best photographer so please bear with me and I think the camera washes out the color a bit. I would love to hear some thoughts on shading the vet robes since that seems to have thwarted me at the moment.

First up: Power Fist Veteran Sarg. He's reaching for the stars to implore the Lion to return.

You can see where I accidently broke the power fist here. A replacement is currently on the way.

Power Maul Veteran. Something about him really appeals to me. You can see where I accidently got some green onto the robes by his feet. I need to find a way to clean that up somehow.

Power Sword Vet. Again, I goofed up and got some red onto the robes.

Bionic Power Sword Vet. This guy is my favorite because he's more machine now than man and just looks so stiff after long years of service to the Lion.

Chainsword Vet. He's the "rookie" of the squad.

I'm currently planning on using these bases from Dragon Forge for the squad.

C&C is most welcome!!!

Your Dark Angels look very nice so far, especially the robes are nice. I do hope, however, that you're going to add some more colours ^^

Your highlighting is very subtle, which isn't bad in the first place. To my mind, some more depth would really give these guys an edge.

Oh, and I like the ideas you've posted - "reaching for the stars to implore the Lion to return" sounds very poetic. ;-)

Thanks Rogan. I'm thinking about washing the folds of the robes which should hopefully add some more depth to them. The armor is currently on two layers - 1:1 DA Green/Chaos Black and DA Green. It's going to come up a bit, get highlighted, and washed as well. So that should really come out nicely...at least I hope!

Unfortunately my angels had a setback yesterday when my little dog decided to eat the arm of the power maul vet! So, I'm going to need to figure out a replacement or buy another box of company vets.

Another quick update. Most metal parts have been completed on the 5 models. The following are some images of Mr. Bionic and the face of a robed vet.

Once again I apologize for my horrible photography skills. I turned the images into .gifs to make them smaller but it's lowered the detail and quality a lot. C&C welcome as always. The only way to improve is with help!

Close up of the face. Still lots of clean up to do on the model as a whole but I'm content with the coloring of the face. He needs an eye and some teeth still as well as coloring on the cables connecting into the optical piece.

Here is what I imagine of how I feel a veteran of hundreds of years would look. With all the bionics and the coloring on his face he's pretty scary looking. If you notice you can see the skin is "raw" around the merging area of his bionic face to his real face. He still needs an eye and teeth as well but overall I'm pretty excited about this guy. Also, his bionics are done as far as the metal is concerned. I still need to paint all the cabling that winds through them however.
