XKhalilX
i saw them on ebay, and i thought theyd make great shafts for spears or staffs for librarians. if anyone has tried this, what size do you reccomend? aekold
I would recommend 1,5 mm. I have used 1,5 mm for shafts of glaives of my sanguinary guard and they fit nicely into the hands of marines and provide enough strength. 1mm is to flimsy and 2 mm to thick. Gurth
I wouldn't use plastic rod for spears etc. because it's relatively fragile. You would be much better off buying brass rod, which is rather more unlikely to bend and break when you transport your models, drop them, etc. ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220637-plasticardstyrene-rods/#findComment-2634437 Share on other sites

MattCrawford
Just a tip if you're interested in freebies: a Q-tip w/o the swabs is an excellent size for spears/poles/etc. for units in Terminator armor, and reasonably sized for units wearing power armor. It's durable, reacts to plastic glue, and the inside is hollow, which makes pinning a snap. Pull out a few of those bad boys, clean your ears (to reduce waste ;)) and snap off the swab ends with scissors. Voila. Cheapy staff rods. Br0ther Rafen
For the couple of guys that I use, toothpicks I "thinned out" work quite nicely, but plastic rod is probably easier to use. my 2 cents Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220637-plasticardstyrene-rods/#findComment-2642495 Share on other sites
Boltergeist
I use 3/64 brass rod for most projects, including banner poles. You may want the next size up for a more beefy look, but you'll have to drill through most of the hand on a normal marine. I definitely recommend using brass rod over plastic rod. Plastic will bend and break very easily, but brass rod is there to stay. An example of the 3/64 used as halberd hafts is below: http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w248/Cabal615/003-4.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220637-plasticardstyrene-rods/#findComment-2642631 Share on other sites
