Stormraven in WD

Evening brothers,

I thought I'd pop this up on here to let you know. As always, if you require actual proof, then that's fine as I'm just relaying what I have been told.

Those of you who have a copy already will know that there's a page of the rules in WD for the stormraven, with all options and points etc. I rang my local store to find out if this changed anything or whether it was still BA only as the magazine did not state that you could or couldn't field the Stormraven if you weren't BA. Obviously, people would have argued that because it specifically did not state that you couldnt use it, people would. So I thought I best check. I have been told by my store manager that his regional manager has said that this allows all chapters to take the Stormraven in their lists. I feel a bit sorry for BA players losing something unique to them, but I've been itching to play with one of these.

Enjoy!

Unfortunately that's not the way it works. Games Workshop develops a permissive rule set, whereby they tell you what you CAN do, and nothing more. Just because it doesn't say you can't doesn't mean you can. So if the White Dwarf in question does not allow other chapters/armies to use the Storm Raven (or makes no mention of such in the rules), then only Blood Angels may use the Storm Raven.

DV8

Use it in Apocalypse. It'll probably end up like the LRC anyways, when that was Templars only.

The Crusader was never Templars only. Templars didn't have their own rules until Armageddon, and Armageddon codex states that all marines can take the Crusader (as 0-1).

Oh believe me DV8, I know it's a case of needing a rule to say you CAN have it, rather than there being nothing to say you cant. I wanted to check so I just called my store and that's what I was told. I have a feeling its going to cause a panic with people arguing about what theyve been told/ reading there's no mention of can or can't in WD.

I presumed it was going to go this way, with it being a kit costing 40 quid, they'd want every marine player to buy one.

I'm just happy, as it's something fun to try out and build new ideas around.

Haha, that's what I get for listening to those guys in 4th Psyop when I was in Bosnia at the time, lol.

The LRC was templar only back in the days of the index astartes (III I believe) and you could always shoot the hurricane bolters no matter how far you moved (that was a nice rule). That sieres of books had in it lists for all sorts of specialist armies including: Iron hands, Imperial fists, templars, chaos cult armies: Alpha legion, death guard, berzerkers, t-sons and emp children. But there could be others, I just don't remember them off the top of my head.

Evening brothers,

Er, if i were you i'd consult the Blood Angels on this. They have 'official confirmation' that the Storm Raven is still exclusive to their chapter.

I feel a bit sorry for BA players losing something unique to them, but I've been itching to play with one of these.

Enjoy!

I feel sorry for them also! I mean losing something unique to them would totally suck.... Baal Predators, Ball Predators that have the scout special rule, Furioso Librarian Dreadnought, Frag Cannon, Fast Tanks, Magna-Grapple, Blood Talons, Sanguinary Priest, Death Company, Deep Striking Land Raiders, Heavy Support Dreadnought and Storm Raven Gunship. Just to name a few!

Its interesting to see what kind of posts you get for just letting people know something GW told you :D.

I was under the impression that everyone knew that if you want a rule clarification the last people to ask are the guys in the shop or customer services!

At the moment only BA can use the Stormraven and don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. Not even GKs can use them until their new codex gets released in April.

Its interesting to see what kind of posts you get for just letting people know something GW told you :P.

Silliness deserves silly responses, I say. :P

I once had people seriously claim to me that they were still allowed armor saves against my sergeant's power sword attacks, because it was a power sword, not a power weapon. Fortunately the red-shirt came to my aid and threatened to kick them out of the store for that stupidity, because I really didn't want to have that conversation.

As I recall it was IA4. And I'm pretty certain that IA4 just took the rules from the Armegeddon book.

I'd give a page reference, if my old 3rd edition stuff wasn't buried somewhere in my garage. :)

I feel sorry for them also! I mean losing something unique to them would totally suck.... Baal Predators, Ball Predators that have the scout special rule, Furioso Librarian Dreadnought [until grey knights come out], Frag Cannon, Fastnon landspeeder marine tanks Tanks, Magna-Grapple, Blood Talons, Sanguinary Priest, Death Company, Deep Striking Land Raiders [really? would you actually deep strike a land raider?], Heavy Support Dreadnought and Storm Raven Gunship [until grey knights come out]. Just to name a few!

Fixed :tu:

Storm RAvens are indeed BA only at the moment, although they will obviously be Grey Knightds when there new dex is released.

I was also told by my local red shirt that the SR was all marines now, due to it being in the WD.I corrected him and was proven right after a call to teh area rep.

Consequently the Sallamander painjob will be stripped from the stores SR.

Well...Space Wolves have Thunderwolves, Fenrisian Wolves, Sagas, Wolftooth Neclace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Frostblade, Grey Hunters, Long Fangs, Blood Claws, Rune Priests, Wolf Priests, Wolf Lords, Wolf Guard Battle Leaders, Wolf Guard Squads...Just to name a few.

Losing somenthing that is FOR your own chapter sucks, I mean, would you enjoy seeing Blood Bats?

Ran

Either way, I do like the look and feel of the storm raven (without the top turret and air intake). I plan to get one and add the top guns to the sides of the storm raven, similar to how the thunder hawk's side heavy bolters are.

Dunno if I will start a flesh tearer's army so I can use it, or just to use it alongside my renegade army :cuss

IMHO it will go the way of the Crusader/ Redeemer and all other 'add on' kits that GW has ever produced for chapter specific SM dexes...after all they aren't in it for the game anymore...it's all about the almighty dollar now...

They are NOT! ... They're English. They're in it for the Pound. :HQ:

now that's just ridiculous! we are talking about tech here, technology that can go around. And not something you have running around in your backyard, or found in your planet. Ohh i see you play both armies.... touchy subject! my bad  LOL all good brother
