Drudge Dreadnought
Hey folks, does anyone have experience using Montana Gold brand acrylic spray paints for model priming? Does it work, or shall I save it for terrain? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220833-montana-spray-paint/ Share on other sites
madscuzzy
They are abit expensive for terrain but no they are not primers. Short of their gold and silvers, they require a primer else they will scratch off very easily. Still, as you need to spray them closer than your traditional spray, the paint does tend to get thick really easily and melt the surface plastic. Still their colour range is very compatible with our colour ranges...:P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220833-montana-spray-paint/#findComment-2637293 Share on other sites

I just have it because it's the only stuff I could buy from a store nearby other than GWs expensive stuff, and I didn't want to wait several days for an internet order to be delivered. I just want confirmation on it before I risk it on any of my precious models. madscuzzy
Don't use it directly. You will regret it when it rubs off. Try getting some other matt spray paint from your local hardware store, or a primer from an autoshop... pingo
Montana gold is not fine enough for 28mm models. It is ok for terrain without very fine details (I used it for GW's Cities of Death terrain and it served it's purpose), but absolutely not for regular models. madscuzzy
Ive actually used it to spray models and they have come out quite alright, a little bit on the thicker side than most paints, but the shiny effect is so... yum.. Solid Zaku
If you have a nearby WAAAGH-Mart, you can purchase Krylon Ultra-Flat Camouflage black spray paint for less than five dollars. It's less glossy than GW brand, and, of course, nearly three times as cheap.
