AllSeeingSkink
G'day all, I'm just getting back into the Space Wolves (collected them in 2nd edition, got a few regular marines painted up as space wolves in 3rd edition before the wolf codex came out, sort of gave up toward the end of 3rd edition, 4th and 5th editions). Not a huge fan of the shadow grey colour for the puppies or the bright yellow and red shoulder pads. They just dont fit into the rough and tumble Nordic style that I like. Here's a couple of armour styles I was thinking of using. The first is Black undercoat, Adeptus Battlegrey base coat with black left in the crevices and highlighted Codex Grey. The second is a drybrushed Shadow Grey scheme, I painted it a long time ago so dont remember precisely. I think it was base coat of Shadow Grey + black mixed, black wash, shadow grey drybrush, black glaze, drybrush with shadow grey + space wolves grey, lightly glazed something else (probably shadow grey + black) then drybrushed very lightly with Space Wolves grey (then maybe glazed again, dont remember :P). Even though it was drybrushed, there was a lot of steps to get the nice gradient and it actually took just as long to paint as layering a shade, basecoat and highlight. I'm leaning toward the Adeptus Battlegrey, since I'm sick of looking at Shadow Grey after my last puppies army which was all Shadow Grey. I also think the Adeptus grey goes better with the brown fur. Shoulder pads are mechrite red (mix black for shade, mix mechrite red + blood red or orange for highlight). The models aren't complete, will go with dark gold details for the chest/gun/head emblems. Any ideas for improvements or detailing? What do you think of the Adeptus Grey scheme? (P.S. Excuse the poor quality photos, dont have a decent camera so they were taken with an iPhone on the back of my couch using natural light coming through the window ) http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/3753/photoxki.jpg http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/7711/photo2uw.jpg http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/3479/photo4ah.jpg http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/1395/photo5hm.jpg http://img602.imageshack.us/img602/1927/photo7ru.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220838-space-wolf-paint-scheme/ Share on other sites
Serunox
Evening Brother. I like the paint scheme.I was the same, tired of my blue wolves and went for adeptus battle grey, highlights and parts like the aquila and two wolf heads on the breastplates i use astronomican grey.and left shoulder pad i use black. The dark colour looks more battle worn to me and even my friend who isnt into W40K says it looks more battle worn.So I say go for the adeptus battle grey. Orphus
Very nice. Although I would suggest putting something on the tops of the cape so it looks like it's actually pinned on to the armour rather than just sitting there. Yeah good point, I modelled that cape a long time ago, it could use some pins and maybe a chain or rope. Thanks for the idea. :D I think I will go with the Adeptus Grey. The drybrushed Shadow Grey looks ok, but its fiddly to get it to blend nicely and it looks a bit dusty/scratchy.
