Exhumed
Haven't seen much for planetary empires in this part of the forum so I thought I'd share with you my local gaming buddies campaign which we are now into our second round of. Perhaps it will encourage some other posters to tell us about their own experiences in the tile-based battle for hexagonal supremacy! So at the mo-mo, we have 6 players, each starting with 6 tiles each. Roughly three quarters of the tiles had some kind of building on them, and there were three space ports overall. Needless to say, I didnt get one... Something of a MEQ-fest, we had 3 marine players, one necron, one tau and one chaos marines, so as you might imagine a fair bit of power play went on in that first round. Our overall objective was for everyone to get one game against everyone else, then do the end of round. We accomplished this in about three weeks, over the course of perhaps five get-togethers of various sizes, although I never played the Dark Angels with my salamanders. Other points to note would be that the bonuses for special building tiles didn't seem to make much difference in that first round. Silly things kept happening; I had extra command points which let me give my terminators Feel No Pain. They then got into combat with a necron lord who of course ignores such paltry USR's with his mega-scythe... A couple of times I was able to field extra units thanks to extra manufactorum points but these units (mostly dreadnoughts) tended to get spayed early on. After winning three out of four games, including one against the chaos player who fielded perhaps the second beardiest army I have ever seen (consisting of winged demon prince with wind, Thousand sons in rhino with wind, Noise marines in rhino with sonic siren or whatever, six oblits, lascannon predator, and some other spare dudes with a meltagun, for a total of 3 power amour-killing flame attacks and 9 lascannons) we did our end of round rolls. Weirdly, people were capturing tiles even on their third and fourth rolls, which usually have some kind of heavy negative modifier attached. Necron Boy and I ended up with 8 tiles apeice, 6 for templars, 6 for chaos, 5 for dark angels, and just one for the Tau player who lost every game but now gets an extra 350 points when he plays against me... fun times. More will follow, we're playing again on sunday, with an aim to choosing games a bit more strategically. basically the necron player is going down, all the way down, to chinatown!
