72challenger
sorry If i offend anyone with my wording or spelling ahead of time. OK so my cuzin and I have been building a large cities of death board, lots of buildings. Tight alleys and kill zones, We have come up with a couple guidelines for this board. A new army and 1500 points and a special charecter to start. He has decided on a salamander army with Vulcan not sure on what he going to field except for 5 terminator with th/ss. I have decided that i would like to make a flesh tearers army, with Seth. Question is are hand flamers worth there points over standard flamers. how about infernus pistols over meltas. I was thinking on fielding seth with a honor guard with 2 hand flamers and power swords, two infernus pistols with chain swords. Please advise thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220945-blood-angel-cities-of-death-help/ Share on other sites
Whitefireinferno
In my experence the Hand types are always inferior to the Bigger cheaper ones the Only one I would consider is a Hand Flamer on a Flamer weildan JP squad Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220945-blood-angel-cities-of-death-help/#findComment-2638552 Share on other sites
Volcatus
Our Honor Guards are a shooty unit, oddly. Don't cripple their special weapon spam by taking pistols of any type. Not that either the Hand Flamer or Infernus pistol are bad, but they belong as upgrades on other squads. Also note that our HG's are not retinues. Therefore they can act independently from the HQ. Personally, I think this might be a good situation for a Plasmagun HG. If you know that you'll be playing mostly against Marines, 4 PG's, with the hidden Priest to help with those failed Gets Hot! armour saves will be nice. Plague Angel
I actually like hand-flamers to "soften" a unit up for a charge. It can take out a few models to balance out an assault in your favor, but its lower strength means you're not going to accidentally wipe out the whole enemy unit, leaving you unable to assault and thus exposed to shooting in the next turn. 72challenger
so should i put seth with a vanguard unit over the honor guard. Are they more cc than honor guard or is seth and 4 plasma guns good enough. maybe meltas so i can charge in after. I was just thinking of flamers because of the cities of death cover and saves. thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220945-blood-angel-cities-of-death-help/#findComment-2640241 Share on other sites
Wakim
I would only use hand flamers and infernus pistols on Sanguinary Guard and Sanguinary Priests. Are you using your vanguard on foot instead of dsing them? If we go back and look at your HG again, they cost 195 points, as you have them equipped. They can dish out 20 attacks on the charge, 8 of which are power weapon. They have a Melta threat range of 3". I think you can achieve similar performance with better shooting strength if you went HG with the Chapter Banner, 2 Flamers, one Meltagun, and two power swords. Cost, 195 pts. They put out 22 attacks on the charge, 9 of which are power weapon. They have a Melta threat range of 6", and more effective template attacks at STR 4.
