Jokaero?

Fritz from Way of Saim-Hann has Jokaero on the mind lately, and claims they'll be a Heavy Support choice for Grey Knights. Nevermind the fact that the last time the Inquisition worked with them (ie, captured them and had them make tools) they got bored and just teleported away. Fielding them in combat is unthinkable, though I can definitely see them explore their fluff in reference to the digital weapons and other tools used by Inquisitors.

Last time they had rules they had a chart where they could randomly do things like turn your leman russ into a hundred lasguns. They might also randomly mesh all your rhinos into a land raider equivelant. What ever they produced, it would be random. The fluff postulated the idea that they weren't truly sentient and that they did this on instinct as an escape/survival mechanism and that they couldn't be negociated with. The only reasons they've not been purged is because the question of whether their sentient and thus worthy of the Emperors wrath and the shere impossibility of the act. They're a race that can make void shields out of bamboo, turbolasers out of cocanuts, and teleporters out of bananas, do so in a matter of minutes, and may do so if they even think they're being threatened.

Jokaero Taco Bell?

/cheezy late night television commercial

In all seriousness, I think the reason they may not have been purges is because 1) they're seen as useful in some respects and 2) they're also seen as animals, and not necessarily as 'alien', which is true if only through the technicality of them not being sentient and acting only on primal, primitive instincts for base needs and survival. Maybe that tolerance is the Ordo Xenos dirty little secret to tap into better tech.

You have no idea how hard I want to hit you right now. :)

Deepstriking LR's is the most botarded idea ever conceived.

"I'm going to drop a landraider out of the sky and if it hits anything bigger than a lawn gnome, it explodes."

Now, if they make it so you can teleport one onto the field? Infinitely cooler. I realize that they're technically one and the same (deepstriking/teleporting), but when I think 'deepstriking' I think of someone grabbing onto a rocket engine and rolling out of a hangar bay to ride it into battle like an angry steed.

Don't they actually teleport anyway, rather than drop out of the sky?

They specialize ...
No. They don't. Just because miniatureisation is what they're known for does not mean that it's a specialty.

What fool is the atributed author to this fluff despoiling travesty of a codex?

C'mon, we don't even know if it's really true, it's just a rumor. And even if it's true, we don't even know under which circunstances the jokaero are mentioned in the codex. Some say HS, some don't. I prefer to sit and wait.

As far as I can tell, Vor, LR's are literally dropped onto the battlefield. If you land on a grot, prepare to die in a ball of fiery doomy-doomy-doom.

If I remember correctly, no one's figured out how to teleport something that large yet. Though, that might change come the GK codex, who knows? I'd be all for it since the Knights are supposed to be discreet, quick, in-and-out fighters, so that means not landing a friggin' army in the middle of a city, but rather covert insertion into the areas in question or plagued by the daemonic.

(Looks at Vindicatus and puts on a helmet)

What about a Land-Raider drop pod?

Miniaturised of course..

I know that I have an =][= model in TDA with a bionic leg and the packet he was in said "with Jokearo digital weapons" but that was about all I've ever heard of them...so heavy support is a bit of a stretch...

Who is writing the codex? is it A-D-B? If not, why? He knows what the hell he's doing...

MR.

Really? You really think A D-B is a prime candidate for codex authorship? I'm sure the man is a fantastic author able to churn out all manner of scintillating black library pulp, but games design is a very different skill than writing a novel. This board, nay, the fandom as a whole, is crawling with hacks who would debase and destroy the system as a whole in a misguided attempt to 'fix' some perceived minor flaw that has more to due with the errors of their perception than any real defect. Over time, and it's taken a number of years, I've come to understand a little better why the studio makes some of the choices it does. I don't agree with all of them, but the answer is not to shove the job onto the untrained, uninsightful, and ill prepared, and I've seen nothing to convince me of our superlative authors games design credentials.

In five years Messers. Ward and Crudace may have finally learned how to handle the complex systems that are the games workshop brand of games, with in ten years they'll likely be working somewhere else. I look forward to seventh edition with some cautious optimism.
