Inquisitor Hector Rex

I have this model and was planning on using him, or his model anyways, because he just looks so bad a$$. I was just wondering if anyone has actually tried to use him as he appears in the IA book. I see lots of people on here basically saying a Inq should not be used as a CC unit but from the looks of him he is designed to be just that.

It's a shame FW really mucked Hector Rex up. The rules that is, the model's good stuff. Not happy with giving him the usual problems of a normal DH cc-inquisitor (too daemon-specific, meh survivability) they also made him more expensive than pretty much any other human special character I can think of. Rather take a squad of PAGKs or two sets of ISTs.

Hector is definitely a swing and a miss :(. Not because he is so expensive, if you take an Inquisitor lord and give him the same stuff (or as close to it as you can) hi will be at the same prise range, a little less expensive but weaker stat line. The downfall with Hector is that he is what he is, an Inquisitor at his worse. He is made for cc with daemons, but regular Gray Knights will do a better job, even Torquemada Coteaz with his daemon hammer stands a better chance against daemons I think (haven’t really analysed it, cal it a hunch). For Daemonhunter Inquisitors, “shoty” is the only way to go if you want to be cost effective and sadly Hector is not.

Fluff wise, Inquisitors (Hector included) are AWESOME. But I don’t understand what GW was thinking when thy made these guys. S3 and T3 but still pay full prise for armour and weapons. A Lord has enough wounds and attacks, but need henchmen to get the I and WS he needs. Further more he has to take henchmen, and because the henchmen are absolutely crap in cc, he will take a lot of fearless wounds. Did GW actually think we would be able to do some hand to hand with these guys?

It’s a shame Torquemada Coteaz isn’t an Independent Character though. Just imagine sticking him into a squad of PAGK. Shooting at him would be resolved at T4 and not T3, hitting him in cc would be resolved ad WS4 and notWS3. The PAGK unit would receive 5 additional S8 attacks on the assault and not 3 S6 (as from other Inquisitors with hammers), and the benefit of placing the first wound from shooting at a 3 wound model with 2+ 5++. Not to mention how even more kick ass the PAGK would be at killing daemons :). But sadly he is not :(. So the chance we had at getting a cc Inquisitor was effectively taken away by GW, giving Torquemada Coteaz the possibility to have 0 henchmen, giving us hope, and taking it away by not making him an Independent Character.

absolutely crap in cc, he will take a lot of fearless wounds.

inq lords arent actually fearless, they can just choose to pass or fail all checks.

meaning

you lose combat, you simply choose to pass your leadership, combat continues

no fearless saves
