UndeadRook
So I have (mostly) finished my first 5 Space Wolves, I'm just a beginner at painting and WH40K in general, and I'd like to get some honest opinions about them. Are they tabletop quality? Is there anything I can work on? Any tips I might find useful? That sorta thing. These are in order of when I painted them i.e. from right to left, oldest to most recent. Here's a slightly different view with better lighting. This is my most recent wolf and the first to undergo my first attempt at highlighting. Please leave comments, questions or criticisms as I would like to improve as much as I can, thanks. dchmp
Table top quality yes indeed; the only thing you need to figure out now is what to do with the bases. You have a good SW feel on your models so keep it up. SW figs are some of the most fun to paint because they're so detailed and different from other GW figs. dchmp Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221325-some-honest-opinions/#findComment-2643505 Share on other sites
hendrik
good work pup! have an ale on me! ;) i really like your painting level and definetly think it's table top! heck, it even looks beter then my space wolves! the only thing i'm not that fond of is the scouts head. it's placed rather funny since those heads don't have a socket designed to go into PA. this gives the miniature a gorilla like feeling imo but hey, tastes can be different! keep up the good work! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221325-some-honest-opinions/#findComment-2643526 Share on other sites
Shieldwall
I'd even say your painting is slightly above most stuff I see on the table, nice job. They look and feel like Wolves. As far as critique goes, the combination of red and gold can give quite a "warm" feel to a miniature, which I personally would avoid in the particular army. I see you can do hard highlights, so you might wanna try to give the gold a hard edging of a very bright steel colour (mithril silver for example.) This will cool down the "warm" gold, and also add a lot to the miniatures 3-dimensionality. Also, you could try to seperate the two colours by adding a dark shadow into the recesses, where the trim meets the main surface of the shoulder guard, thus further enhancing said effect. Of course that depends on how you want them to look in the end, but I personally prefer "cooler," a bit more arctic colours on my wolves. MaveriK
second model from the left (wolf scout head) doesn't look right to me. it's as if his neck is crooked from all the angles from your pictures. everything else is excellent. keep up the good job wolf brother! Wulfenstein
Not to shabby at all for just starting out. Definitely better than when I gave it my first attempt about 10 years ago. For your plasma wolf with highlighting, I would recommend doing another layer or two of a lighter highlight to make it pop just a little bit more. Other than that, keep up the good work! Dahli Llama
Looking good. I like the darker tones with the red and the gold. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221325-some-honest-opinions/#findComment-2644139 Share on other sites
UndeadRook
Thanks for all the comments and encouragements. Oh, and I do agree that the scout head looks off. :) @Shieldwall - I think I'll try your suggestion for the shoulders. When I finish more Wolves I'll post them. I also have a venerable dreadnought in the works right now but I have barely even started on him.
