Inquisitor_Lensoven
ok, so i've always wanted to do great works painting my models, but i never seem to get there. i always go in wanting to do it up as best as i can, but before long...i just decide to settle for a good tabletop quality. basically i end up happy with the models when i finish as long as it doesn't look like a 5yr old girl trying on make up for the first time. i can't really complain to much because i have received compliments on my models, but i've never been one to settle for 'well i did good enough' any advice on how to keep the enthusiasm? Debauchery101
one thing i usually do is to keep myself from feeling the "grind" is just focus on really making great looking sgts and spec/heavy weapons guys. people in general normally pay more attention to those models anyways, myself included. the rank and file guys in the squad painted in a good uniform scheme really makes those champs and specialists stand out. Tangamarine
What got me going is the fact if they were not painted, I could not use them in any upcomming tournaments. That really got me going Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221331-painting-rut/#findComment-2643744 Share on other sites
Br0ther Rafen
Yeah, an upcoming GT/competitive monthly tourny can sometimes really get you going. You sometimes find yourself having "gothic" thoughts (if you know what I mean :P), but that stuff goes away when you see the ranks fill up. Aternatively, paint harder things like an uber-detailed character that will take like 5 hours to finish. Sounds stupid, I know, but when you start to paint a normal guy and you finish in an hour or two, you sort of trick your brain into thinking that it isn't really all that long, and you find painting fun again. winterdyne
Separate painting for armies to play with from painting for painting's sake. Get a different model (different range entirely works for me) and paint that to the best of your ability. It's incredibly hard to paint an army well you intend to game with in the near future. Shortcuts always start creeping in. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221331-painting-rut/#findComment-2644022 Share on other sites
Brother Argos
Thats a good idea Winterdyne ... especially the "other range" aspect ... I might well try that! Lord_Halrian
it's not getting them painted it's putting the extra effort into my painting that i'm having problems w/ I sometimes find myself having the same problem, A good Fix to this is paint as far as you can, Then take a break from said models and come back to them a squad later. like paint squad 1 till 3 colours and some details, Then start squad 2 till the point squad one is then go back to squad 1. finish it then hit squad 2. Just make sure they are diff types of squads to avoid bordum. That way you can even play with them, just make sure to give a quick dull coat to said models first! Inquisitor Engel
I change up my colours. I got so bored of YELLOW for my Fists that I did some Grey Knights, then back to Fists. I got bored again and did the Inquisitor and his retinue, then back to Fists. I got bored again and did a Techmarine, then back to Fists. Got bored again and did some Legion of the Damned. Now I'm back to Fists. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221331-painting-rut/#findComment-2647008 Share on other sites
