Blindhamster
Alright, a little background for what it's worth... Some of you likely remember my various Blood Angel armies from the distant past, probably most notably My Blood Angels from around 3 years ago when I was a staff member. When I stopped working for GW I also fell out of the hobby in a big way. In Doing so I sold all of my Blood Angels and a good amount of other models I'd done. Keeping just a small bits box. It wasn't till a full year later that I had a great Idea, I'd been playing Dawn of War 2 as it'd just come out, I loved the depiction for Marines in that, and set about making 'the commander' from that game, with armour heavily based off of one of the suits available. I also took the time to cut the legs up and re-pose him. Once he was made I looked at him and it reminded me of what I loved about the hobby, this then got me wanting to build more, the decision I made was 'just a single squad' Each one would be reposed to be stood more upright as the effect was much better than previous 'true scale' attempts I'd made which had resulted in tall skinny models or tall fat models (the former being extended legs and a little bulkier torso, the latter being based off of terminators). During the period of time it took me to get that initial squad built, Space Hulk was re-released. And of course, having found myself somewhat back in the hobby, I purchased it. Took it home and then looked at the AWESOME blood angel terminators, I then looked at my now finished tactical squad and decided that my army would be Blood Angels. Though I must admit to using the Marine Codex rather than the PDF (which I DID use for the army I'd sold over a year earlier). From that point I've very slowly (it really has been a side project) been cutting up and building marines. My aim is to build and eventually ^_^ paint the following (stuff thats done is coloured Red): Tycho's 3rd Company. Captain Tycho (both a Deathcompany and standard Version) Captain Tycho is done 6 x 10 man tactical squads 3 x 10 man are built 2 x 10 man Assault Squads 1 x 5 man are built 2 x 10 Devestator Squads 8 Rhinos 3 Rhinos Built Supporting Units: 10 man Sternguard 5 Man Squad is built 10 man Vanguard 6 man squad is built 10 on Foot deathcompany Drop pod done 2 Baal Preditors done 1 Vindicator done 1 Storm Raven 1 Furioso 5 Sanguinary Guard done Additional: Dante DONE 5 man Jump pack Honour Guard (bling for these as they go with Dante) Mephiston Corbulo Astaroth Sanguinor an 'assortment' of Sanguinary priests (i.e. I'll use these as my keep me interested models when normal stuff get me bored) 3 Priests so far Still with me? Hope so... Though I know most wont even really remember anything I've posted. So, I'll post some pics of some of what I've got once I find the memory card for my camera, till then I'll recap what I can. Dante 1.0 This was pretty much the last model I did for my Blood Angels a few years ago. I'm recapping him because Dante version 2.0 is much much better (though unpainted) and I want him here for comparison. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/bloodangelscompany/DSC00001.jpg For those at all interested, here's a link to the old army: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v235/bli...dangelscompany/ Captain Tycho. Currently the only model I have a picture available online of, and it's not a great picture. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/100_1996.jpg Question, do I add blood to his 'dead mans hand'? also note, the Blood Song Combi-Melta is unfinished, the rest of the model is pretty much done. some more pictures and WIP shots of him available here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v235/bli...Blood%20Angels/ Finally, My Pledge for LPC is to get a Tactical Squad Painted and to finish Tycho. Update - post 2 well... all I'm going to say is Thanks! you guys are awesome! I really didn't expect so many folk to have such nice comments to leave, especially considering I've shown nothing new yet! so I figured I should show some pictures, sadly I suffer from the same flaw as I've ever had, rubbish camera skills. To make things worse, I ran out of battery, so you get pictures of only a fraction of the models I've actually built. sadly, due to the death of the battery, I got no pics of my Dante, but I'll try and get some soonish (he's not finished, still needs some little wings sculpted on his belt and ankles. -Disclaimer- Everything below is wip if its in painting stage! Vanguard Veteran Squad: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0036.jpg the one with the black torso and legs was originally going to be a captain, counts as shrike before the new BA codex arrived (yes I fully admit to returning to the BAs with the new codex, it wasn't a power thing (I sorely miss Telion, whom I used every game) It was just that we got a proper codex and I felt I should use it) one of the Sergeant: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0037.jpg ones of the squad: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0039.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0043.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0044.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0045.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0047.jpg As you can see the full squad uses the company champion shoulder pad. I stole the concept of this being a veteran shoulderpad from Dawn of War 2. Brother Lexicanum Ranor of the Deathwatch http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0048.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0049.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0050.jpg This model is my deathwatch character for the game of the same name by FFG. He also acts as a Librarian for my army (ran as a standard 100pt libby) in times of need. He has like all the rest had legs cut up and reposed, some extra detals on the legs sculpted, the deathwatch arm is culpted below the elbow and modified above. His robes were sculpted as was the detailing on the sword. He uses the Forgeworld grey knight shoulder pad. His paint job is very basic currently Beginings of my first tactical squad. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0051.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0053.jpg The sergeant was heavily based on the collectors edition Dawn of War 2 armour for Tarkus. Oddly the lighting in the room made the blood red (sprayed over a black undercoat) look a little pink, in RL they're very red, even orangy :S I decided to spray them red, and do a model a day to the point of being shaded and all black areas painted black. this means I should have 'em done for the LPC deadline. The only Sternguard veteran I've started painting http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0054.jpg this model was actually painted to this stage before the above tactical squad. As you can likely see, he has a lot of extra details sculpted on. I also copied sergeant lorenzo from space hulks leg details for this mini. He also sports the Company Champion shoulder pad, which all my veterans and sergeants bar the one above use. Finally, the Veteran Sergeant of my first squad, the one that started it all http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/PICT0056.jpg Not a very close pic (sorry) or a great quality pick (sorry again) but this model was the first one done for this army, sadly the detail cannot really be seen, but I painted the gold, the red on this model was finished, his heraldry on the shield was complete and I painted the sword in the style depicted in space hulk. He was painted about 6 months before the Tycho from the first post, except the head, which was painted at the same time as Tycho. At this point the camera died.. :) Hope these pics are an acceptable thankyou for all the kind words. I'll try and get more (as well as an update on the tactical squad and tycho relatively soon!) Blindhamster Update - post 3 Hi all, I think I've got a reasonable grasp of my camera now, I still need practice and to make a light box, but for now, I've got a couple of pics for you, Dante as he currently looks :) Now, my reference for his pose was this: http://www.coolminiornot.com/store/shopima...bnails/aews08_1 Leogante, Wings of Redemption Reason I went with this? The model has a huge amount of grace while still looking powerful. This is exactly how I imagine Dante, he's ancient, skilled and fast. Someone with an initiative of 6 (and now hit and run) I see as being swift and graceful. This pose epitomised the feeling I wanted perfectly. Dante is just landing gracefully onto the battlefield, his honourguard (when I get round to making them :) will all have somewhat heavier poses, perhaps cracked tiles etc) so, onto some pics: Front pic: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020429-1.jpg again I've kept him unhelmed, and tried to have multiple accessories that convey motion in the model, his hair was heavily copied from the above miniature and the addition of blood drops on chains and purity seals all with a back and up movement to help the image of him landing. His legs are completely sculpted below the thighs, I used thick wire to get the pose then greenstuffed the basic shape over before building up. You'll note that his knees use the sanguinor style laurel rather than dantes old school style, this was simply because the laurels look better imo. He still needs wings added to the skull on his abdomen and to the skulls on his ankles. as well as the laurel sculpted on his right knee and an iron halo. side pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020431-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020432-1.jpg I cut down a standard marine arm and then went about making a replica sanguinary guard arm without a wrist mounted weapon for his left arm, his axe was the space wolf axe from the wolf guard blade, the sanguinary guard arm and shaft and the wings from the sanguinary guard axe also. Rear view: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020434.jpg one of the things I wanted to do with my old dante, but simply sucked at, was a mask on his belt, this time around, with the sanguinary guard masks as a reference I was much more successful: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020437-1.jpg Hope folk like :) Comments, thoughts and ideas are welcome, he's not finished anyway. thankyou again for all the kind words so far! Brother Styphus
It pains me to enjoy any Blood Angel army like this. I have never seen so much character in a model, and it seems you have at least 1 such character in every squad. Blindhamster
@xscottfergox : Thanks mate, hopefully I'll get him finished soon. Which heads do you mean though? Dante/Tycho/Ranors heads are Blood angel heads with hair removed and resculpted. vanguards head is a space wolf head, again hair sculpted. tactical sergeant with sword is a master of the chapter head with sculpted hair, other tactical sergeant is master of the forge and the sternguard veteran uses Cullns head, with sculpted hair :P @Nephren-ka : Cheers mate, it's good to be posting again, this army has been slow going but I'm gradually getting there. @Mr.Malevolent : Thanks! ^_^ @Legio Draconis : Cheers mate, I was HUGELY proud of the original at the time of making him, but I'm far more pleased with Dante 2.0, though I'm really needing to finish him @darkwrath : You sir, need to post more often. :P thanks for the support though. @Doghouse : Thanks buddy, I've been meaning to begin posting these for a while, I actually had a fair bit of it built back when I posted the Tycho 6 months ago. Dante is a much more recent thing however, and I believe shows the progress I've made in the sculpting department. Must be watching all your threads that helped ;). Very pleased you like him @Debauchery101 : lol, thankyou! It was hard work, though actually took less time to make than the Tycho model. @Leonidus : I'm glad you approve, I've been trying to keep the look and feel true to the art and things, without going overboard in Bling. @Vairocanum : Dante 1.0s head was from the assault terminators. I sculpted tied back hair onto it and painted the scar on. that and the tactical termi head were my favourite marine heads at the time. @Brother Styphus : Character is what I'm aiming for, I've actually slowed down building them again now, as I'd begun taking less time per model, the result being they started becoming a little boring. Thanks again for the kind words, it's hugely appreciated. If anyone has thoughts on things to add/improve, I'd love to hear, as I think it's always worth getting as much input as possible. I'll have another update on the weekend, I've made a good amount of progress on the tacticals, and the single veteran. I'm also planning to add some extra details to the vanguard (which look kinda plain next to the sternguard) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221371-blindhamsters-3rd-company-blog-lpc-and-onward/#findComment-2645892 Share on other sites
Brother Styphus
I don't know what you do with them, as they seem to be standard size, but each one seems "larger than life" as marines should. I hope you did something to make the rhinos as extravagant. Looking forward to those. Tyrannicide
I remember how much I liked watching your Blood Angels grow the first time around. This is a nice surprise and I'm keen to see you progress further with this one! Different take on Dante, but I still like it very much. The idea has been executed flawlessly, though his death mask looks more like a fat child's face. Maybe it's just the picture, sorry it isn't all that clear. That said, I'm looking forward to more models. Are there any plans for the Death Company and Sanguinary Guard, respectively? Blindhamster
So... I'm blowing the dust off of this thread, some of you may have noted that I've been gaming a bit more lately with my blood angels, I actually did next to no work on my army after the last update in this thread, right up until maybe a month ago. I'll run over whats been built for my company as of now: Captain (tycho) three out of 6 tactical squads (each has a rhino built) 1 out of 2 assault squads no devastators yet (these are actually next on my list) As well as the above, I've got a 6 man sternguard sqaud (the sergeant is the Deathwatch Librarian above) a ten man Vanguard Squad 6 Sanguinary Guard (one with chapter banner) 5 honour guard 5 scouts 3 priests (one jump packer, one on foot no gear, one on foot w/ power axe) Librarian 2 Baal Class preditors a Vindicator So as the above shows, I've still got a long ways to go. But The new additions since the last update is an assault squad and another 4 vanguard. All models in my army (with the exception of my current sanguinary guard, 4 vanguard and the librarian) Have been heavily converted, with new poses etc. I'll get pictures of the squads once they've been painted red, as the black they currently are does not take photos well. But, I've got some pics of the VERY WIP 1st tactical squad. All I've been doing is getting shading done on each marine and blacking in areas of black (I've actually started work on the eyes for them now, in an effort to give them more 'life' till theyre finished) One needs both shading and blacking, another just needs blacking. Once they're at that stage, I'll be touching up the red on them all adding highlights and then doing the details before finally weathering. here's pics of the squad as they stand (hopefully the poses are pretty clear, I've not added any height to them, but they all stand a fair bit above standard marines, purely because of the upright poses): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020439.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020440.jpg As well as the above, I've mentioned my honourguard quite a few times, these are designed to run alongside Commander Dante in my games, so I wanted them to be pretty 'bling' they wont be getting gold armour, but they will be getting lots of gold details. Here are pics (there's quite a few) Group shot, as you can see, they're all bare headed, this is because my Dante is bareheaded (mask on his belt) I also wanted to paint each one to really feel like a unique individual, so each got a unique head and hair style (I've only used the same head once in my army, that was for dante/the deathwatch librarian and Tycho, but each of those looks very different all the same) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020443.jpg Blood Champion, this guy I'm quite happy with, he got a leant forward pose, back foot just leaving the ground, the idea was he's just about to move into a run http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020445.jpg first of the two 'defensive marines' for the squad, they're armed the same to give the idea of centurions, shields are on the side theyd be protecting. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020448.jpg The Priest got the same hair as the priest (or captain) from page 4 of our codex http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020451.jpg My Favourite member, went for a swinging his axe type pose - different angles in the photobucket link at the bottom http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020454.jpg The Chapter Banner Bearer, I wanted to have a look of an older marine, so while the rest of the squad have shouting heads he got a calm coposed expresssion, he also has a cowl covering his hair. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020457.jpg Shot with Dante (he's now very hard to see due to being black like a ninja!) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v235/blindhamster/Latest%20Blood%20Angels/P1020460.jpg And here's a link to the photobucket page for more pics (along with pics of other stuff for the army) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v235/bli...Blood%20Angels/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221371-blindhamsters-3rd-company-blog-lpc-and-onward/#findComment-2805566 Share on other sites

Hyaenidae
I'm...I'm speechless. If you were across the table from me, I'd concede defeat immediately, because I would be so enthralled with your mini's that I would be unable to play. The faces and sculpted hair really bring so much character to each marine, they truly look like each of them have an amazing story to tell. Was there a tutorial from where you learned how to scuplt har, or just years of practice? Any tips that you could give a greenstuff novice when sculpting such gorgeous locks? Lord, these are amazing. Thank you for sharing these guys. I'll be waiting impatiently for your next update, good sir. cathar the great
Impressive work all through the thread. How much work do you put into those upright poses? AlexCrute
Blindhamster your work is always a rare treat, but these are flat-out special. Praise aside though, my internet-spawned sense of entitlement demands that you hire or become a professional photographer immediately. The photos aren't that bad but if you put really good ones up I will still be looking at them in 6 hours time. sponsra
Best conversion work I´ve seen on marines! Amazing poses and personality. Since you are so skilled its only fair to be a bit picky. On the group shot of the tacticals the second marine from the left looks a bit weird, around his right shoulderpad that is almost in front of his face. Could be the photo angle though. Also the "first defensive marine" seem to be tipping over forward. And, yeah: Get a good camera and some better lighting!
