Talmon
If I buy a 3 man unit of WG and a LR, can I then assign WG1 to GH pack 1, WG 2 to GH pack 2 and WG3 with the LR to GH pack 3? Dahli Llama
I don't think so. Once a Wold Guard is assigned to a different squad, he is no longer considered part of the original Wolf Guard squad for any reason. So while you could buy a 3 man Wolf Guard squad and a dedicated Land Raider, once you assigned each of those Wolf Guard to a different squad, there would be nothing left of the original squad, so the Land Raider would have to deploy empty. What you could do, is buy everything as you said above, deploy the Land Raider empty and then on your turn, the Grey Hunter squad could jump aboard. So you could still get 4 Land Raiders if that is your goal. stinkenheim
The grey hunters would be unable to begin deployed in it (as would any other unit) because it is a dedicated transport for the wolf guard unit. However they can embark on turn 1. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221391-wg-and-lr-question/#findComment-2644641 Share on other sites
Talmon
What I am trying to do is have 3 LF packs and the LR. So long as I dont start in the LR I'm good to go. Just wanted to make sure the WG could still be broken up. Thx for the answers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221391-wg-and-lr-question/#findComment-2644684 Share on other sites

Only disadvantages are that you won't be able to drive forward and disembark on the first turn, and in Dawn of War games the squad will have to walk for the first turn. Quillen
Have the 3 Long Fang Packs and just stick a power armor unit of Wolf Gaurd in the tank. I do it alot. They have better weapon options which cost less them Grey Hunters and 2 attacks base. Add in Ragnar and they have 3 plus d3 attacks on the charge, and a Land Raider to let them do this. it usually picks up 2 or 3 squads a game and rips the heart out of their list. Killed 3 deamon princes in 3 games, plus a host of other models. . 3 long fang units? I always take a unit but never tried more than 1. They are a cheap Support unit but would sooner spend the points on assaulting units. What weapon options you using on the 3 units of longfangs?? Grey Mage
You cant 'assign' the landraider to a unit other than the one it was purchased for. If all the WG in the unit you bought it for have been alocated to other units as pack leaders the only models that can deploy in it are independent characters. Talmon
The 3 units of LF's are.......3 ML, LC.......3 ML, LC.......3 HB, LC.....ran out of ML but still figured the HB would come in handy, they are cheap shielding for the LC and still lay down fire vs IG, Ork and genestealer hvy foot armies that are in my area. Thx for the feedback on the LR, just wanted to make sure I could still buy it since I was splitting the WG up Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221391-wg-and-lr-question/#findComment-2646508 Share on other sites
