Both wolfclaw and thunderhammer for a thunderwolf lord?

Is it to much of a point sink to give a thunderlord both a wolfclaw and a thunderhammer, with a belt of russ, instead of one of the weapons and a stormshield? Has anyone tried both, which works best?

the last faq giving the thunderhammer lord s10 is soo powerfull, but loosing i5... Not sure if its worth it.

The problem with that selection of Wargear is that in combat, you have to pick which Special you want to use, you can't use both, and as you said both are quite costly and can't really help in some situations.

As for which one, depends on what your average opponents are. If you play lots of NidzillA (MC Spam), Guard Tank Spam, or Nob armies, then Thunder hammers are great against the big stuff. If you verse lots of Green Tide and Chitin Swarm (Hormaguant spam obviously), or even the fabled Footslogging Guard (All foot slogging Guard, NO vehicles what-so-ever), then Wolf Claw(s) are going to be you best friend (with Saga of the warrior born of course )

Hope this helps.

I just happened to use last night a WolfLord on Thunderwolf, with Frost Weapon and a Thunder Hammer to great effect! I was able to pick and choose what weapons I wanted to use each phase which made a great difference. On round 1 I was able to stun the character with the TH, and then in the second round, using the frost weapon, I was able to attack first with the high strength frost weapon and finish him off.

In fact, I played 3 games last night with the same list, and in each game the Lord killed each Independent HQ character from the 3 other players. It worked better then I could have hoped.

Expensive yes, but effective.. heck ya.

Depends on the size of the game, I'd say. You're paying through the nose for versatility, and losing a Storm Shield's formidable 3++, but in a big enough game where you can afford to shell out for 2 special weapons and a Belt of Russ, it could be nasty. It's probably not "optimal" in the sense of getting the absolute most bang for your buck (you're only using each weapon half the time, which means you're paying for points you may not always want to use), but that's no reason not to do it unless you're in a very competitive metagame or whatnot.

And even then... there will be times that it will save your life, no doubt about it.

Not sure Id run a TWMd Lord like that, but its certainly a viable tactic considering how many attacks he gets anyways.

*Looks furtive*

I'd just take two thunderlords. Hammer and Bear, Claw and Warrior Born.

Although taking a hammer and a sickle would make him a worthy champion of the downtrodden proletarian comrade.

I would say have a storm shield and a frost weapon for a Thunderlord, and i always give my hqs, if possible, saga of the bear.

Costly, but my friend always uses Powerclaws and powerfists for their hqs, or force weapons and Vindicator shells, for me i see it as a nessecity.

I used to have my DA grandmaster with TH and sword of secrets (the old S6 power weapon one) and finally stopped equipping him as such only becuase my gaming buddies complained so much. So yeah, TH and frostblade/wolf claw is good, if expensive. Personally, I like to use TH and SS to make him nigh-unkillable, but thats just me ;)
