Piousservant
Hey all, Looking for some advice with painting a wash coat onto a Land Raider - I've not used washes over the large flat surfaces of a tank before, so I wasn't sure how best to go about it (if at all). I airbrushed on the main colour, but I'm not sure if airbrushing washes works? Having got a nice flat colour with the airbrush I don't want to ruin it by having a blotchy wash all over it - any help would be appreciated!! Phlegon
Well I guess it depends on what you are trying to achieve with your wash. Are you just shading the recesses or do you use the wash to tint your color. For my Crimson Fist I use baddab black to tint and tone down my top layer of drybrushing. To avoid any splotchiness I slather on my wash and then use a dry flat edged brush to pull my wash to the back of the tank. Hope that helps. Piousservant
Thanks. Yeah, it's to tint the colour, that's why I wasn't sure how it will work/look on the large flat surfaces of the LR. I'm not quite sure what you mean though, you apply the wash with one brush - over the whole model? - and then use the other brush to sort of to spread it out? Vindicatus
Yeah, that's essentially what he's saying. He puts a crapload on the model in various areas, and then uses a large, flat brush to pull it back towards the rear of the tank so it looks uniform and even, allowing it to pool where it needs to. Tanhausen
If using AB, I'd say giving a light gloss varnish coat should help the wash "running" over big plates and into recesses due to lower rugosity. UltraRich
I found washing a large area with a tank brush left it looking patchy I tried airbrusing neat GW Wash and after going over it a few times it works really well. Id reccomend black lining the edges of the plates and then try air brushing the was onto where there should be shadow. I when went over it with paint using zential (sp) highlighting with the air brush. Have a look at the bottom of my LPC thread. The shadows look very defined but I might go over these again. My LPC Thread with Predator on it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221449-washes-on-tanks/#findComment-2647876 Share on other sites
