Are there any HH books with the Emperor?

I honestly think he is better kept as a side figure, seige of terra will be from Imperial Fists and White scars or maybe the custodes POV. One of the reasons that the traiters gave for being tempted to turn against him was that he had become a recluse. The important scene upon Horus's bridge he will need to be present for (obv) but the defence he left to Dorn and the Kahn.

He's like Sauron in Lord of the Rings. A central character, the main reason whatever is happening is happening, but we know nothing about him, nothing from his POV.

The siege of terra, or him killing Horus will be told from anothers POV. We might read about the actual fight, but it will be told from the perspective of Marine X who just happened to be there.

The Emperor features most prominently in Descent of Angels, A Thousand Sons and Legion, as far as I can remember. At least I think they are the only books where he actually has dialogue - once speaking to Zahariel, once to Grammaticus and at the council of Nikaea.

Mechanicum and The First Heretic have good Emperor time in them as well, as well as significant dialogue.

There wasn't anyone present for the showdown between Horus and the Emperor besides the two of them. An Adeptus Custodes walked in halfway through, and Horus vaporized him with a psychic bolt. It will have to be in the third person, or from one of their povs. Really think the showdown needs to be the Emperor's PoV, but very carefully written.

The old Bill King short from Slaves to darkness had it from the emperors pov

As part of my occasional forays into writing stuff quite badly, I have been toying with writing a kind of memoirs of the Emperor thing as he sits on the Golden Throne contemplating all things Imperial - which would obviously cover Heresy things and why he did what he did.

Obviously as is traditional with these things not everything would be revealed.

Here's a quote or two from my blurb thus far.

"I am the Emperor of Mankind.

No other name will suffice, my origins are forgotten by you, but my name will remain my own. There is power in names and not even in this tome will I reveal such things."

"Whispers, always whispers. “Come to us, join with us, be one of us”. They had been constant throughout my existence, always with me, always tempting, unrelenting, unyielding, persistent and painful. But I knew them now, I knew their nature. Malevolent and corrupt, the ruinous powers of entropy and chaos. For the first time, I knew my enemy."

"The first steps on the path to salvation or damnation may be the same and it is not until the journey has begun that you will know which path you have taken."

I think the Emperor POV can be told and written, but it'll probably take someone a lot better than me to do it.

Still if redundancy does come this year, I might find the time to have a go at it.

Regarding the Emperor's appearances, he does show up in

"Nemesis"

.

As far as "The Last Church" appearance in "Tales of Heresy", I think it probably gives the best impression of his personality and thought processes, making him more of an actual character and less of a deus ex machina. That said, I think that the extent of Emperor's appearances in the novels should be limited to that. He is an external force, and much of the ambiguity of the 30K and 40K universes could be ascribed to the lack of clarity on his character, aspirations, and true nature. Remove that, and the universe might lose one of the major underpinnings that draw readers/players in.

In fact, the Heresy series has done a great job so far in revealing just enough back story to keep the readers' interest, while leaving enough things ambiguous and open to interpretation. As a reader, do I want to know what "really" happened? Absolutely... but in reality, if BL were to reveal everything that happened, or to give a definite account that fills in the blanks for every major question/event in the 30K/40K universe, I know I would probably lose quite a bit of interest. Therefore, keeping things ambiguous is one of the things that keeps my interest in the stories - and I'm sure I'm far from the only one.

Ultimately, I don't think that Black Library will compromise its "cash cow", and it should not - keeping things ambiguous results in a win-win situation. People like us keep on buying the books and spending our leisure time debating our theories on the events therein, knowing that many things are still open to interpretation. Black Library keeps on publishing the books that provide good, solid entertainment and a solid stream of income for them. Everybody wins.

I agree with not wanting to Humanise the Emperor or get inside his head too much but I do think that the Creation of the Primarchs thing needs looking at, We've seen it twice from the PoV of Chaos each time them making it look like all "we helped the Emperor in good faith we donty want anything to do with the material universe, he's killing us he's a bad man AAAAGH cry cry waah waah" which is just so much Bullsh*t, I really want to see it from a loyalist perspective which means the Emperor or maybe Valdor or a Gene Scientist although i doubt the scientist would be privvy to the big E's thoughts on the matter or where he got his information from.

Malcador could be a character who could be written about more and give insight into what the Emperor tells those closest to him, without over using the Emperor's PoV. Would also give some wriggle room for ambiguity.

Would love to get a flashback from someone who was privy to some of the interactions between Horus and the Emperor early in the Great Crusade when Horus was the only Primarch who had been recovered.

Sangunius PoV on siege of terra anyone :D ...........

But you'd have to have someone else be the closer.

I'd like it seen from Malcharion's POV, myself, but I confess I'm biased. My suspicion is that the siege of Terra will be at least two books' work; a POV from each end would totally work.

Oh, wait, going back to your original statement, that would be SUCH a cop-out, ending the book on Sanguinius' POV and using that as the fade out for the whole series. NOOOOOO~O!!! ;)

I think there will be a duology to end the series as in the Siege of Terra told from both PoV. From the loyalist perspective, Dorn, Khan and Sanguinius would be the main characters along with Malcador, Constantine Valdor and Astartes such as Sigismund (I personally am hoping to see his anointing as Emperor's Champion and going out to butcher all he can find. A-D-B anyone?)

As for the Traitors, the Primarchs are a given, Khârn (so we can see his "death") maybe the Dark Mechanicum and, hopefully, Abaddon and Aximand. Think those 2 could really act as great counter points to each other with the one being fanatically committed to the path while the other is torn by guilt for starting down it.

As a side note would be really great to see the gathering of the Primarchs at the end and how they deal with the fact that another one of their brothers is dead and their father is entombed in the Golden Throne

I always pictured a star-wars like party with a catchy tune from the beat of the dead traitor Astarte's shoulder pads. Ewoke equivalents a must as well....
