Land Speeder Kitbash

I've been going backwards and forwards over what I wanted my Land Speeders to look like, what pieces to use, and what kind of feel I wanted. I'll let the pictures do the talking, but its still at a very rough working stage.

Leman Russ Tanks, Chimeras and Land Raiders are all made Right-Hand-Drive (or Right-Side-Machine-Spirit); why can't Land Speeders join in? Only problem is it leaves a massive gap between the dashboard and the marine I have piloting. And whether or not to try and put a shield in place to give the pilot a bit more protection.

Suggestions and comments are most welcome :(

I know its been a while, but procrastination is an well practiced sport for me. The turning point was when I received my new flying stands in the mail. Some photos to demonstrate how they work:

I got curious as to how much weight the magnets could support without losing stability.

Some shots of my assembled and now pretty much finished Right-Hand-Drive Land Speeder:

And yes, I did magnetise the side hatches, so in future I can put on the Typhoon Launchers. Possible the most painful part of the assembly.

All the pieces laid out, ready for paint. Coming soon

looking good mate , only thing i would change, is the shield for the driver.

i think the angular edge would look better if it was on the other side if the shield. so i'd advise on squaring the right edge with green stuff and cut and file the left edge to improve the aerodynamic look.

Thanks for the comments, guys :P So while I was waiting for some downloads to finish, I was playing around with my magnetised pieces off my Dreadnoughts, when the "dread-speeder" comment came back to me.

And then I stuck my Dreadnought arms onto the sides of the Land Speeder. Ladies and Gents, I give you, the Rifleman Speeder:

I think he wants his arms back... he doesn't look happy...

Painting to begin this weekend, hopefully primed on Friday morning.

Looks good. I'm anxious to see your magnetized Missile Launchers. I'm looking to do something similar myself. On a side note, is it really necessary to magnetize dreadnought arms? It seems the way it is, you can just not glue them and slide them on and off. I was just curious if the extra work to magnetize it was necessary and the reasoning behind it.

The AoBR dread arms and regular dread arms aren't the same size. I use bluetac to solve the problem but magnets work too.

Loving the funky flamers. I agree magnetising the typhoons was the most painful part for my speeders too!

Meatman indeed has it correct - the Black Reach dread has different sized plug/socket pairs.

I did end up clipping the outside corner of the driver's shield, as suggested. I haven't fixed up the inside edge just yet, but it will happen eventually.

Oh, and there's now three of them ^_^

And since I was awake at an ungodly hour anyway, what's another five minutes to throw together a Typhoon Launcher? I'll be doing up two full sets for a tournament I'm going to at the end of April, but for the moment it'll be the Multi-Meltas and Heavy Flamers getting the attention.

It did take some creative filing on the inside of the door panel for the magnet to sit flush, so that it would match the original. Now that all the bodywork is done, its time to get these bad boys off to the paint shop

The parts I used for the Rifleman configuration are the turret-mounted weapons from the Aegis Defence Line kits. For more details on how I did it, click here. Also, the metal parts I've taken from the 2nd Ed speeders pre-dates the "white" metal production, so caution is advised if you track down some pieces for conversions yourself.

I did manage to get all three undercoated yesterday morning, seen like this:

I wanted to contrast the mainly purple colour of my tanks, so I decided on a mainly black scheme with purple accents. For reference, this is what my Rhino chassis look like, albeit with a Hurricane Bolter turret. This is one of my many Land Raiders.

So going from that, I've base-coated parts of the Speeder, and started detailing the crew members.

I think it has the effect I was going for - still the same visual identifiers to link with the rest of the army, but with a more sinister feel as befits a fast striking element.

I'll be doing more on these this evening, hopefully getting them finished off.

Well it took a lot longer than I'd hoped, and the other two have fallen behind quite a bit, but I finally got one of them finished :) Except for the weapons, and the gunner's arm :(

I dug out my old "Tron" test model that I did a long time ago. Just for giggles :D

At first I was reminded of the Emperors Pointy Sticks, but now that I saw the completed model as well, Tron is a good comparison as well. Good work! I know you've all ready done all of that work and all, but I think I enjoy how placing the Typhoon launcher under the nose looks, and is easier to convert it that way since you would all ready have the magnets in for swapping the Tornado pattern weapons under the nose. Just a suggestion if you have not considered it for future speeders.
