NirvanaHonarius
In some of the Black Library fiction, particularly the Eisenhorn and other inquisition based books the topic of personality implants are occasionally mentioned. I've been tinkering with the idea of Imperial Guard regiment comprising of vagrants and homeless people who have been displaced by a interplanetary crisis on a planet with a very low voluntary recruitment with low level implanted personalities to induce bloodlust and fervor to replace their natural unwillingness to fight. I was wondering if anyone has anything to contradict this take on imperial science or any comments on the concept itself. Vindicatus
That's not all that different from that of a penal legion. I suppose it would depend on the type of archeotech required to induce such a state, since things like that don't necessarily come cheap, and different forms of it will land you under the scrutiny of the Ordos Xenos in suspicion with dealing with aliens. Simpler option? Mind-wipe everyone. It literally leaves a blank slate (characteristics and personality traits as well) that you can mold a person into whatever you want. NirvanaHonarius
I suppose that could work, after all the inquisition storm troopers are mindwiped after more sensitive operations. Add a few propaganda programs and indoctrination and we got the fervour required! Inquisitor Fox
Even simpler option: Give them rebreathers, perhaps the Cadian vox-caster heads (usually cheaper bits to buy) and say they're being fed chemicals in air that make them all wonky ^_^ No psykers required, not expensive tech (really rebreathers and drugs are pretty low tech) and very easy to make workable. It's also a good way to justify Inducted troops.. get a bunch of expendibles, hype them up on medication and throw them mercilessly at the enemy. That being said, lets make sure we don't dwell too long on the topic. The tech and reference to Inquisition fiction is fine, even the applications towards say, retinue options or Inducted troops fluff. However, we don't dwell on Imperial Guard issues here in the OI or on the B&C. Keep that in mind everyone, either comment on the tech/motivation issue, or not at all please as we don't want to start treading in the realm of me having to shut the topic down. Captain Juan Juarez
..not expensive tech (really rebreathers and drugs are pretty low tech) and very easy to make workable. Salvar Chem Dogs get them, as I recall.. And as a Regiment are only a step up over a Penal Legion, so that is a brilliantly simple and effective idea. Azekai
Psycho-surgery and stim-injectors are both employed by the Ecclesiarchy in the creation of troops (that is where arco-flagellants come from); however, such alterations are meted out as punishments, and as Vindicatus said, this idea does have a lot in common with a penal legion. I am not sure how developed your background for this army is, NirvanaHonarius. It could be that following a failed insurrection an Inquisitor Lord mercifully decrees that the entire world must do penance for its crime, resulting in a massive planet-wide conscription. *Furyou Miko
There's a unit of mercenaries in one of the Eisenhorn books that all take Personality Templates before every mission in case they get captured. If that's what you're referring to, it can't be that big a deal - there are hundreds of the bastards running around. Inquisitor =D=
There's a unit of mercenaries in one of the Eisenhorn books that all take Personality Templates before every mission in case they get captured. If that's what you're referring to, it can't be that big a deal - there are hundreds of the bastards running around. I know which group your talking about but your off just a little. The templates placed withing the merc's minds weren't to affect them they were to keep Gregor from back-tracking the source outa the merc's head. Poorly done if I remember too. Also they were done by a fairly powerful psyker to begin with which is a rarety in and of itself. Personally I like the idea of the implants as if you remember that's exactly how the World Eaters came to be. =]D[= Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221460-personality-implants/#findComment-2653751 Share on other sites
