Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
I was THIS close to doing my Wolves in silver. But then I went for the super common neutral gray track as opposed to the super common blue gray track. I am a firm believer in people making their miniatures whatever color they want. As long as your opponent knows what you are running, it doesn't matter what color your marines are. They could be bright pink, with sparkles and rainbows and unicorns. Someone work on that idea. Zzo
Brown would be great! I've seen a brown space wolf army that looked amazing, the owner called his army desert wolves to make it more fitting. Stormshrug
Could work. Loketh
Go for it. I was considering it, but in the end decided to go for a VERY light grey, bordering on white. They're the Wolves of Russ, and it's obvious who they are without traditional armor :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221485-space-wolvesbrown/#findComment-2646304 Share on other sites

DV8
Space Beavers. Only if the accent colors are red and white, and the iconography features a leaf of the maple variety eh? :) And all bare-helmeted marines have to wear either a toque or this. Plague Angel
If any wolf-pelts were painted in grey, timber-wolf style colors, it'd make for a great contrast as well as an interesting color-reversal to the normal brown-pelt/grey armor. littlbitz
I seem to remember a Space Wolf Army feature in White Dwarf years ago that had a beautiful Space Wolves army in it. Avarris
My wolves are red now, they were a dark blue (similar to crimson fists) but have changed back to repainting them in the red colour scheme that I did months ago, they are called the "Blood Fangs" and they are remenants of the company of wolves that were on board the Wolf of Fenris when it was attacked by Huron, in order to survive they repainted their armour to match the Red Corsairs so they could hide, now they are fighting their way back to the Fang to be reunited with their brothers. I will get some pictures of these guys once I have a set up cause I have a large number of models to photograph (both SW and other armies) So my point, just because Space Wolves have always been known as being a light blue colour scheme, you dont have to follow that at all, and you can go for what ever you like and feel more comfortable painting. As for the name, I would go for something like "Space Bears" if its a darker colour scheme. I remember them having some neat Wolverine-esque conversions. You are correct! The Rock Badgers were done by a good friend of mine, Shawn Kilgore. He brought them to several Grand Tournaments, when they had the Chicago GTs. He started with Space Wolves models, and sculpted all kinds of doodads and bitz on tho them. He even sculpted several large, wolf-sized badgers to accompany his characters! Sigmund Hammerhand
I don't quite understand what look you're going for - is that damaged armour, or is it part of your colour scheme? The idea in general is good (when I saw "brown" in the title I was having my doubts) because the model doesn't just have the grey replaced with brown, basically. But if you're going for damaged armour, I'd try painting a bit more so that it looks intended. At the moment it is very hard to tell if you purposely went for that look, or if you were in a terrible rush during an earthquake  (no offense intended here, just trying to understand what you're going for) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221485-space-wolvesbrown/#findComment-2657231 Share on other sites

Sigmund Hammerhand
Woah, that does look very striking. He's pulled that off very well. Although I must say that I'm no fan of brown armour, he'd still get my vote for best painted because it's extremely well done. Skarvald the Troll-faced
BEAR with me, hehe.. When I was younger I used to go to art lessons. My teacher's name was Krasimir Zinin. But that doesn't matter. This guy was phenomenal, almost 7 ft. tall, heavy set with bushy eyebrows, bushy hair, bushy beard. Pitch black, all of it. Basically picture Hagrid from Harry Potter and you'll know what I'm talking about. I used to go to his lessons every Saturday and Sunday for 4 years. Throughout his mentoring I won numerous art awards, diplomas, etc, etc.. But that also doesn't matter. Throughout those 4 years, Mr. Zinin gave me countless advices, pointers, tips... yet there is only one bit of advice that I remember still to this day.. You wanna know what it was? It literally was, when translated: "Brown is the worst color ever. It reminds me of ." Even watching Kirby's blog makes me shudder. He is an amazing painter. The models are painted to really high standards, with exquisite attention to detail, color combinations and what not. Yadda, yadda, yadda. But to me they look horrible because of that brown abundance. It just doesn't work for me. Especially when painted on a flat, smooth surface. It is just so unnatural, you know? Nature rarely has any smooth brown objects. Don't even mention rocks, don't be silly. Crap, even we don't produce a lot of brown things. There is a reason for it.. Actually, Jaegar. I like your marine. It has brown but it is so drowned by the white and the red. If you do continue with this project though you need to ditch the red and go for something else. Yellow would be fine. Nice light blue too. Combine that with some bright silver details and you'll be golden. Combine that with some bright silver details and you'll be golden. i wouldn't discredit the color brown. the problem with the color is that it isn't a popular color with people when it comes to space marines. nature may not have any smooth brown objects, but man made objects that have the color brown do. we don't produce allot of brown things really!? leather bags/jackets? brown colored fabric? wood tiles? oak? wooden furniture? peanut butter? brown shoes/boots? brown colored clay? chocolate? pottery? brown colored animals? brown sugar? chestnuts? brown paper bags? yadda yadda yadda. the problem with using brown is how to properly shade the color. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts.../30/291528.page in that example, your shown the color brown as a base color, fading the model to make it look beautiful. and you advice to ditch the red on Jaegar's mini? if anything the red helps the brown by complimenting it! this picture example is a perfect... http://cincycag.forumotion.com/t1309-space...fire-cannon-pg9 sometimes two dark colors compliment the artwork in its entirely. but that's just my personal opinion on it all.
