Another Blood Angels Successor

It's not what you think...I have my hands full with my DA successors and Daemonhunters armies. I have no desire to begin another. However, I do have a copy of Space Hulk, and I'm getting the urge to give the models the attention they deserve. I don't want to go with the Blood Angels, as I find their all-red scheme rather boring, and because I like to be different. So, I decided to do a BA successor, allowing me to use the minis unmodified. I've come up with the following scheme, and I would like a little help creating some background info for the chapter. I'm not particularly tied to anything, as I have no intention of creating an actual army of these guys, but I want the background for the sake of completeness.

Chapter Name: This is where I need the most help. I am going to use the standard BA chapter symbol, substituting a blue tear for the typical drop of blood (representing mourning for the death of their Primarch, I guess). Some possible ideas I had were...Tears of Sanguinus/Emperor, Mourning Sons, Lamenters (oops, that one's taken), Grief Bearers, The Aggrieved, The Grievers. I'm kind of leaning towards Mourning Sons.

I quite like the sound of "The Aggrieved" sorta rolls off the tongue, "Mourning Sons" to me just sounds like a time of day.

Founding: What's a good one?

This depends when spacehulk is set, or when you want it to be.

Specialty: Close-Combat (They are subject to the Thirst/Rage)

Good.

Battlecry: Need something good here.

I'm trying to think of one, but all i've got in my head is "Sharkbait Who Ha Ha" from Finding Nemo

Colors: Halved Purple and Bone White

This is a cool scheme, simple but cool.

Thanks for the feedback, GRN.

I like The Aggrieved, as well. I think I was leaning towards Mourning Sons because it's punny. Then again, perhaps it's not grimdark enough. I'm still up in the air on a name.

I'm not sure when Space Hulk is supposed to be set...I'll have to skim through the rulebook again to see if I can find a point of reference, unless any of our esteemed brethren know off the top of their heads. I am planning on painting the dead Terminators as Blood Angels...

No thanks on the Nemo quote! Maybe the battlecry will be easier when I have a name.

Thanks again!

So far they don't seem that different from the other successors.

If you like them fitting in, and want to keep strong ties to the BA, keep the Italian theme.

If you want to make them more distinct, and don't care all that much about the BA themselves, drop Italy and find a different theme.

Yeah, I know they're kind of bland, but I wasn't really planning on digging too deeply on these guys. This is just a snapshot.

I think I'll stick with the Italian names...I'm going to go with Alessandro Giuliani, after the protagonist in one of my favorite novels: A Soldier Of The Great War by Mark Helprin.

Grief Bringers, maybe? Mourning Sons is OK.

Best to avoid the first one as the Grief Bringers are an official GW chapter - from the Deathwing compilation novel - and have been masterfully fleshed out by Rogue Trader. :D Their IA is in the Librarium, and is a very good read.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm still mulling over the possibilities. Once the Chapter name falls into place, I think the rest will quickly follow. What do you guys think about Affliction Angels? Or maybe something like the Bitter Brotherhood?

Thought it sounded familiar.

In regard to Bitter Brotherhood - no. Emphatically so. Affliction Angels I'm not a fan of, but it's better than Bitter Brotherhood.

I'll repeat what I told Blackrat when he was trying to name his successor. Modifying it a bit to be more relevant. Again, this is just a coincidence I've noted.

Angels of Prepositional Object sounds like a Dark Angels successor — Angels of Absolution, Angels of Redemption, Angels of Vengeance.

Angels Predicate Adjective is more the style of the Blood Angels successors: Angels Sanguine, Angels Encarmine, Angels Vermillion.

Does this apply to successors without "Angel" in the name? Dark Angels, maybe — Disciples of Caliban, Guardians of the Covenant. Blood Angels, no — their non-"Angel" successors seem to be verb-to-nouns: Flesh Eaters, Lamenters, Blood Drinkers.

So you could go with something like the Angels Aggrieved, or simply The Afflicted. That said, "Angels of Mourning" sounds good.

Just throwing other random things out there: the Angels Repentant, the Wailing Angels, the Sin Grievers? If "Flesh Tearers" wasn't taken, I'd recommend that or something similar for a subtle tear/tear pun.

Dating Space Hulk is... iffy.

I rather like "The Aggrieved." Could make for some interesting battle cry like "Feel our pain!"

Or, you could always go with The Weeping Angels

:Troops:

Snazzy color scheme, by the way.

Well, that makes three votes for The Aggrieved and I think it's not to bad myself. I think we have a winner, folks.

Now, we just need a battlecry and a founding. Firepower has suggested "Feel our pain!". Any other suggestions?

As for the founding...not sure what to do here. I haven't found a timeline for Space Hulk yet.

Feel our pain sounds so....emo.

I imagine them laying around in dark rooms listening to the Cure. That conjures up images of people plaing Vampire the Maquerade. Not blood thirsty (literally!) Vampire Space Marines.

(although I do like the Aggrieved name)

Urgh, freaking hate those things! Give me Daleks and Cybermen anyday, just not the Weeping Angels... *shivers*

Creepy ain't they? I'm having a hard time not ripping off the Vashtun-Neradda things for my Raven Guard successors ("Count the shadows! For God's sake, if you want to live, count the shadows!"). I wouldn't feel too bad about it, considering they ripped off another quote from that same episode for the DE Codex Mandrakes B)

Back on topic, "Feel our pain!" does sound kind of emo, but there's a difference. Emo kids are whining about how painful life is because the one girlfriend they had 3 years ago broke up with them over their toe fungus and how painful and brutal a comfortable life in suburbia is on their tender souls (in other words, what pain do they have to whine about?). Sons of Sanguinus on the other hand experience the memory of the most tortuous, slow, and horrifying death imaginable time and again to the point it drives them insane, so it sort of takes the high pitched whininesss out of typically emo phrases.

Still, there are alternatives. "His pain will be yours!" "His memory lives! His enemies die!" "Sacrifice eternal! etc.

The Angels... The Angels are coming for you...

Hmm, that's a thought, I wonder what Sanguinary Guard would look like with their armour painted like marble? Make them look like moving statues... *evil plotting ensues*

I'm pretty sure some BA successors have their Sanguinary guard described as "Alabaster" so...White, might be Angels Sanguine

I don't mean ordinary white like the Angels Encarmine, I was thinking more along the lines of proper marble stone.
