milmaa
Hi guys, long while since I have posted anything! (damn work) I just wanted to post my version of Ragnar, based on the Seth model. Now before you are too critical it is my first time using green stuff really, so its all basic work! Any comments good or bad are welcome, or any tips on what to try differently in future! http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff409/milmaa/DSCN0119.jpg http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff409/milmaa/DSCN0120.jpg Thanks guys Marty Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221513-ragnar-blackmane/ Share on other sites
Decoy
Looks good, mate. Dynamic but not overly so, stance is nice, base is decent (why's that rightmost rock in Pic 2 wet-looking?). I'm not certain if that's a footprint on the second picture, right of Ragnar's left foot; if it is, VERY well done. If it's a crazyrandomhappenstance... VERY well done. I think you could use a bit more detail in terms of shading, details on the blade (yellow and bone white don't really compliment well), but in terms of your GS ability, you're not too bad if this is your "Basic" attempt. Might want to tighten up the scorelines on the pelt, but other than that, I can't say much else. Overall, good model. I'd give it a B+, because there's room for improvement on the "Detail" scale, but everything else is solid. Eikrem
I like the Seth conversion into Ragnar, I've got a very similar conversion ready to paint at the moment. Your green stuffing looks good from what I can see. Ragnars head has come out really well on your model. I dont know if its the photos you have, but the sword mainly looks like a block of yellow on the blade then a block of red for the handle. Maybe a dark wash in the crevices with some highlights on the edges would break it up a bit. Aside from that he looks fantastic, well done brother. Uthred Ragnarson
I like it on the whole, I may have tried to file off a bit more of the Angel's iconography such as on the knee pad But Nice ! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221513-ragnar-blackmane/#findComment-2646548 Share on other sites

milmaa
Thanks guys, I'll try changing the chainsword alittle t oadd shading and all. The base needs some snow added to it as well so that will hopefully make it look alittle better! The reason I chose yellow was I'm pretty sure Frostfang was yellow back in 2nd edition.. Unless someone can correct me! But again thanks for the input its of great help to me! shortysl
I too am getting ready to use Green Stuff for the very first time, and i've been concerned about it. If this is your first time using it, you've given me a lot of faith. I can't even tell which bits of your model ARE Green Stuffed, which to me is kind of the point. As much as i hate to say it to Space Wolf, it's a job well done mate ^_^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221513-ragnar-blackmane/#findComment-2646730 Share on other sites
Kassill
My biggest tiff is the blonde hair. Other than that I take my hat off to your neat conversion. Give me ideas.... Valerian
My biggest tiff is the blonde hair. Other than that I take my hat off to your neat conversion. Give me ideas.... :P Well, just like Frosfang was yellow during 2nd Edition, Ragnar's hair was blond. The OP obviously wanted to pay homage to the original, but while using a newer model, so he has definitely achieved that. MaveriK
its all good wolf brother! as I've said before.. the 2nd Edition Space Wolf codex is our wolf bible. Aye, and I'm not sure allot of the new whelps/players know that... the Ragnar sculpt and Ragnar Blackmane in general is an homage to the original rogue trader Leman Russ model. Similar pose, stance, both models have a chainsword, knot top and not to mention Ragnar now has two named wolves like the rogue trader Russ model. Just sayin! Mav, there was an old rumor, ages back, that the Ragnar model actually was sculpted to be a revision of Leman Russ himself, to replace that original Leman one. After it was created, however, a decision was made to create a new character instead, as GW did not intend to allow Primarchs in games, so "Ragnar" was invented and inherited the Leman model. I don't know the veracity of any of this, but it stands to reason, especially given the similarities you've already pointed out.
