Glitch85
Hey, was just wonder how to go about putting a thunder hammer from a termie arm on a normal arm, where to cut?? Race Bannon
This seems to be a question versus a tutorial ... BUT, why not just use the BA Thunderhammer? It's two handed though. OR use the Space Wolf TH. You'll need to cut up the wolf parts but if you are willing to convert a TDA TH, then the SW one will be easy ^_^ OR you could buy the Thunder Hammer conversion pack from GW, but you'd get Storm Shields and five of them ... Phlegon
If all you have are those termie thunder hammers the I would advise you cut just above the hand, make sure that you cut straight or else you will throw off your angle when attaching it to the PA arm. Now do the same thing to the bottom of the Hammer. If your hammer has the cable going into the bottom be sure to cut slowly so you don't break those cables (provided you want to keep them). If you are keeping the cable make sure you cut them as close to the arm as you can trim it down to fit the PA arm. Now choose your power armor arm and go through the same steps of removing the weapon (if needed). What ever you do make sure you file the hand flat so you, once again, do not mess up your angle. Now grab your pin vise and some pinning materiel, I use paper clips. Make a small poke in the center of all your pieces with your hobby knife. This will serve as a guide for your pin vise. Now when working with a piece like this I will drill out the entire hand making a complete hole through the fist. Go ahead and make your holes in the hammer bits making sure you drill as straight as possible, and like a broken record, this is important for your angle of the weapon. Now all you have to do is measure and clip your pinning material to size and glue all your bits together. The final step is to enjoy your creation. Sorry I don't have any pics, I just wrote this up at work. n00b in need
i did this in makeing my terminators have thunder hammers from the Space Wolf regular marines and i just cut around the fist holding the hammer and glued them on, i didn't really worry about pinning them that much and haven't had any break off in over a year of abusing them (i'm horrible with my models sometimes :D ). i wouldn't recomend the space wolf hammers as they have wolf heads on them. Also the ones you can buy from GW are for terminators. Good Luck bud! ToI
I feel your pain in trying to get the TH to sit right, I just did a command squad w/ bikes and one guy had to be holding a TH. I used the stock TH from the Assault terminator box and filed down the servo pistons on the sides of the arm. Once you do that and file the shoulderpad down to fit a PA shoulder it actually doesn't look much different. The wrist is still a little wider than standard power armor but I think it fits, given the size of the freakin hammer to have some extra support on armor designed for a TH to be used. Anyway that's how i do it, since I have extra hammers lying around... raven guard 1369
cut it off behind the cuff that holds the cabling and attach to PA arm http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd418/ravenguard1369/My%20Raven%20Guard/DSCF7119_0855.jpg thats the best picture i have without taking a new one. you will also have to cut the PA arm pretty close to the elbow to make up for the cuff. other than that i dont think it looks out of proportion and it was super easy  oh and i need to extend the cabling with grenstuff but dont mind that hes WIP still Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221521-thunder-hammer-vanguard/#findComment-2668304 Share on other sites
ToI
I'll be honest even though the hammer doesn't look out of proportion the hose is just hanging there and looks really unfinished. Also when you can file down some of the bits to get roughly the same look I think that frankesteining the pieces together to be more work than necessary and if not done right can yield undesirable results. raven guard 1369
it was actually very little work just 3 cuts with my sprue clippers and, as long as your cuts are good and flat, some glue. I did say i was gonna extend the cabling but that will be on a different hammer. that hammer is there in case i want to play the model. I've got an extra that i'm going to attempt to turn into a ravens head. like i said he's still WIP Â I dont pin anything and im not too squeamish about breaking my models. once I have a model that I put a huge amount of time into then yeah it'll stay well protected. but glue fixes most things Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/221521-thunder-hammer-vanguard/#findComment-2670781 Share on other sites
ToI
Yeah, didn't mean to be offensive, and yeah you did say WIP I must have just skimmed over it. I'm just of the mindset that if I can make a bit work for the job by filing part of it down or building up a part with GS then I'm inclined to do that. I definitely go for the "minimal number of cuts to get the desired effect" approach when converting, keeps my joints looking clean and such. raven guard 1369
No offense taken. I was just trying to point out that I did mention he was WIP and that it was in fact very easy. As a bonus you get to keep the look of a weapon that needs a power source as you will notice power fists and lightning claws also have the cabling. On the other hand the same technique with termie lightning claws is not the greatest idea. The gauntlets are just too big. And all the other techniques given seemed like alot of work so I thought I'd give my 2 cents with a picture To show end result.
