Fluff question: new Marines

Hey there. Writing an IA and wondering if any of the fluff Librarians can give me an estimate about how many Marines are on average created within 12 years, if say, you had roughly 100 (little less) of living Marines and limited Apothecary abilities left....

Depends on the state of the gene-banks.

If there is adequate flesh to rebuild from and the chapter gave it's self over exclusively to rebuilding then 10 years. Assuming it takes 2 years to select replacements and weed out the weedy ones and 8 years to turn the next generation from human to super human.

But this is under the most optimal conditions possible.

This is assuming that there are no spontaneous mutations in the gene-banks, there is an adequate supply of fresh recruits very close at hand, there is sufficient gene-seed already matured, you have enough surviving suits of Power Armour and the chapter has a whole decade to rebuild uninterrupted by everything else in the grimdark future.

if all of everything goes absolutely perfectly a new chapter could be built within 12 years from just 100 troops.

Eh? Are you sure??? Lets say that all 110 survivors still have both sets of progenoids. Lets then say that you can get a fully trained Apothecary, familar with the specific geneseed. Remove all 200 geneseeds from your 100 surviving 'Celestial Lions'... Assume a 100% survival/successful implantation rate. 300 full marines after 8-10 years. However, after 5 years, you might (emphasis on the might) be able to harvest another 200 progenoids from the 200 new recruits (the first set of progenoids mature fairly soon). That would give you after c. 8-10 years: 100 veterans who're almost entirely busy with training new marines. 200 new marines who are about as green as marines can be (barely into their black carapace) and with probably little direct fighting experience since they couldnt be risked fighting till their first set of progenoids were removed, and then 200 scouts. Another 10 years would give you a total of 100 veterans, 600 new marines, and another couple of hundred scouts...

20-25 years ought to do it, but you'll have lost a hell of alot of combat experience doing it - your veterans will have gotten rusty and your new marines will not have as much battle experience as a similarly aged marine from a normal chapter. The shape, outlook and 'soul' of the chapter will alter because of this.

Depends upon the gene-seed and the chapter.

Do they do anything that endangers the success rate?

Do they have large stores of Gene-seed?

Do they have a recruiting base able to support crazy amounts of loss?

Lets assume the chapter has only what is within it's brothers.

So 100 progenoids (yes only 100 if they have all 200 then double these numbers)... find 1000 or so recruits and assuming you find one in ten that is worthy of being a marine you implant them. I'll be generous and say 60 survive, 8 years later they have full implants and 5 years after that the first set is finished growing and can be used on another 60 marines. Assuming a sixty percent success rate 36 more marines are implanted and so on.

Actually this raises questions, even if you account for the second set of implants the implantation rate isn't sustainable. Unless the organs can be harvested and reused.

also it depends on he chapter or parent chapter. cause ba can make a marine in a year when it usually takes 10 years. of course that marine will be compleately out of it for a year as its in a coma undergoing the surgurys etc and has then to undergo training as a scout if he survives. (and ba have the rage and thirst to overcome which also ower our numbers...)And then look at the crimson fists who were knocked down to what, 300, and in how many years i havent heard of them going up or down in numbers. also flesh tearers ave been stuck at the same levels, but have been in a state of constant warefair that would destroy most chapters... and the ba chapter was knocked sown to 50 in the spacehulk at one point. and were back to full strength in lik 50 years,(i think...) yeat it took the ultras how long to replace their first co?
Most chapters maintain geneseed stores, however, so to a certain extent the number of progenoids available doesn't matter. There'll be a heap of them back in the Fortress-Monastery. Likewise, the Adeptus Mechanicus supplies the Raven Guard with geneseed, and might be willing to do the same for another chapter.
