1st time playing at a GW store

Hear da Lamentation

Recommended Posts

OK, so I have booked to play at my local GW store (for the 1st time.) I've been playing my mates for about 18 months now, who play Tyranids, Deathwing and Eldar. I have played against Orks once.

Other than that I have never played any other armies ... nor read any other codeces. This isn't a good start from a "know thine enemy" point of view and so I am expecting a kicking (unless I'm against the Nids, who I know well.)

Any advice for facing other specific armies?

well, first rule would be to politely but firmly ask them to prove certain rules that seem unfamiliar to you, by showing you in the relevant codex. Explain you have played a small base of players and cant afford to buy every codex.

This should cover most rule issues. I would suggest being polite and friendly will help, even though that should be a no brainer.

I have never played a game vs someone I didn't know in a GW store, I would like to but just haven't gotten around to it, good luck.

Heh, I am in your boat too, I know very little about most other codices. Here's the little I know:

Tau suck in close combat. Rush them because they usually can outshoot you. Ditto with most IG builds.

For orks, it depends, although usually rushing them is a bad idea. If they pull the annoying Nob Biker trick (wound allocation on tough models) remember bikes cannot go on the second floor of buildings.

Chaos marines are closet to Space Wolves in that their base troops get 3 attacks on the charge and the similarity between their terminators and ours (who can take all sorts of assortments of combi-weapons).

Blood Angels are fast, and often take special characters which give units Feel No Pain. Definitely check with the player first to make sure you understand who is giving out this ability and target them in close combat if you can.

Marine armies shouldn't be too hard for you to get a handle on. And remember, ask questions, and learn from your mistakes. If you get pummeled (like I often do against new stuff), figure out what you did wrong so you will be better able to take on that army next time.

pad is a good idea nurglez. Thanks for all the advice, I'll let you know how I get on.

For anyone interested, I'll be fielding the following

RunePriest MH,JoWW

8xGrey Hunters mg,ws,motw

1xWolf Guard cmg,pf

rhino

9xGrey Hunters mg,ws,motw

1xWolf Guard cmg,pf

Rhino

10xGrey Hunters 2xpg

rhino

5xLongFangs (4xml, 1xlc) + pack leader

4xLongFangs (4xml) + pack leader

Wolf Lord Magma (RA, TH/SS, Saga of Bear, bike)

3 x SwiftClaw Bikers, mg

1 x attackbike (mm)

1 x WolfGuard (pf,cmg,bike)

Personally I'd say find a local club as opposed to going to a store, you'll probably learn more about how the game works and there's less chance you'll get your minis fingered by youngsters!

If you're in the Reading area send me a pm.
