Pre Heresy Wolves

I am deciding on changing my space wolves colour scheme to pre heresy, aswell as getting pre heresy and post heresy models form forgeworld.

I have been looking around the internet for 2 hours on advice, and have been wondering on colour schemes and heads to choose for my models.

Also, i am planning on buying prospero burns to help me make my wolves.

I was wondering can anyone give advice on said options?

Really want to make my wolves pre-heresy, it feels like starting a new adventure as less is known of the past than the present.

I see my wolves and remember threads of people being disollusioned by what they look like, and this now reflects into how i see my wolves. Luckily i have only painted 10 models and have a 2000 point army, so it is better to start early.

So.

Help and advice please?

the thing about pre heresy armies isn't their coloursheme, it's really a lot of conversion work and detail required on the miniatures, for example some armour marks weren't around so you'll have to avoid using them etc.

the B&C has a fabulous horus heresy community, i highly suggest going there and read some topics. you'll find a lot of info there. a great pre heresy space wolf player is wolf lord mjolnir (or was it kieran?), he's made one of the coolest (heresy) space wolves armies i'm aware off!

Aren't you getting the pre heresy/heresy era armor on FW? Those entire kits should give you what you need. Wolves probably used Mark III and IV mostly.

Are you doing a snapshot in time during the 30th or are this a company who happens to have a lot of the old armor?

Congratulations on joining the Heresy community!

My (often unseen army) is a Heresy era army. With regards to kits I used the Red Scorpions upgrade pack with a bit of shaving for Torsos and just Mk VII legs and arms because FW hadn't released their Heres parts at the time and I think a minimum of £50 for ten basic Grey Hunters is perhaps too much for me. The Heresy era kits are nice though :/

Colours, the typical colour people will pick for Heresy era Wolves is Codex Grey (I believe this is because of the 13th Company source material but cannot be sure atm).

Good luck with your project. :D

I am going for a black undercoat, coloured codex grey. Then a wash of badab black, and another coat of codex grey with fortress grey highlights, and another wash of badab black. I feel this gives the armour a worn down look as thoguh they have been in fierce fights.

I have chosen to mix my army up a bit, with mark 3 and mark 4 armour from forge world, and also to give my wolves a ferocious look i want to paint war markings and to coat them with pelts, as from what i have seen with pre heresy/post heresy armies, they are extremely animalistic when compared to armies such as Imperial fists. So i will have a modern looking grey hunter 10 man squad, 10 men blood claw squad, and 10 man wolf scout squad(probably split into two units) and my land raider looks very wolfy and animalistic as it is, so will be designed post heresy.

5 man Terminator squad with wolf claws fit directly into the animalistic look. And my thunderlord should go quite well too.

I dont know how to post up pictures on B&C, everytime i try it goes wrong.

When i find out how i will post pictures up of what my army looks like, and perhaps you guys can give me advice on editing them to be more heresy like?

I feel the mark 3 and mark 4 armour will go really well, will take me a while to build them up though. Does anyone know where i can get some interesting heads and designs for shoulder pads from? I keep seeing pre heresy terminators with strange shoulder pads, with it being a rectangular pad jutting from the shoulder with a smaller rectangular pad jutting out underneath the first.

I am thinking i may even add some heresy armour units to my army aswell.

about the thunderlord, you might want to know it's a "new" thing for the space wolves, it's only rumoured that we have them etc. imo it would be a well known fact that space wolves sometimes ride into battle mounted on a thunderwolf had they done it like that during the heresy... just my 2 cents though

If you want to do Pre heresy, and dont want to pay forge world prices then this polish company can help
