What Are Your Thoughts...

As detailed above:

7 Company Veterans

- 3x Power Weapon and Bolt Pistol

- 2x Chainsword and Bolt Pistol

- 1x Flamer

- 1x Combi-Flamer and Storm Shield

All in all, this squad comes in at the same price as a plain squad of Deathwing Terminators. They will be mounted in a Rhino and sent to take out "soft targets." My main opponents, however, are Marines and Necrons (and, once in a blue moon, Tyranids). Do you think this squad is a waste of time or half-way decent, which is really all I'm going for?

A decent enough loadout i'd say, but if you're regularly facing Marines and Necrons i'd ditch the Combi-Flamer in favour of an additional Bolt Pistol and Chainsword (or Power Weapon if you've got the points), swap the Flamer for a Meltagun and give the Meltagun the Storm Shield. The Power Weapons and Meltagun will take care of those pesky We'll Be Back rolls from Necrons and will come in handy against Tyranid Monstrous Creatures too. The Storm Shield will ensure that the Meltagun marine will survive as long as possible without denying you attacks.

That sounds good. I've actually considered something similar with the Storm Shield wielder, but I was worried since I thought such Marines were mostly there to catch shots. That'll be another configuration I'll try to play test.

It all depends on what you're running in the rest of your army. Another option is to purchase Commander Azrael. He's expensive but he's a monster in close combat (6 strength 6 attacks on the charge with a master crafted weapon) and if he joins a unit his Lion Helm grants every member a 4+ invulnerable save. Keep the Rhino for the squad if you like (no one expects the Chapter Master to arrive in a Rhino so they may not pay much attention until it's too late) or stick them in a Drop Pod and give those filthy heretics a real surprise!
