RW typhoon...squadrons?!

So I have been toying with the idea of the following setup, possibly x 3:

RW suppport squadron- 140 pts

TML/MM

MM

Obviously this would increase the survivability of the typhoon but would also make the squad more reliable at hunting heavy armour, albeit at the expense of increased cost. The rest is nothing new; hide the expendable LS to gain 4++ cover saves for the squad and place damage results on the plain LS first. Thoughts?

I think he means

3 x 1Typhoon + 1 MM speeder. Or 3 groups of 2 speeders, use one to get cover for the other, and take most of the penetrating hits. While I think this could work it is not an insignificant amount of points for 3 full squadrons (basically you are spending 195 points to make your typhoons more durable.)

Thats exactly what I mean breng. I have been using 3 typhoons since the FAQ and I agree they totally rock. Havent tried the squadron I mentioned yet but 65 pts doesnt seem that bad when you consider it increases the survival of both speeders by 50% via 4+ cover and the survival of the typhoon in particular by another 50% of that via ablative speeder. As you say it is a significant investment but a cool idea non the less.
Yeah the disadvantage comes when you take more than one penetrating hit, and end up with an imobilized result that takes out the Typhoon. However, if you have the extra 195 points it might be worth it. That said at that point I think that as a missile platform the Devastators are still more durable and cost effective in a Foot deathwing build. 4 Missiles for 170 points vs 4 missiles for 280 points, though the speeders can engage multiple targets and move. You could also consider using one speeder squad to give cover to another. In a foot deathwing build I don't think this tactic will work due to lack of armor, and the point cost (420 points total).
Speeders main bonus vs Devs is that they give speed to an otherwise slow army. Terminators of course will get to where you want them to by the end of turn 5, but where they struggle is when they're locked in assault, or have to rapidly redeploy due to unforseen events
