IronKobra
I went for a creamy colour...but I did toy with the idea of black too example: http://i847.photobucket.com/albums/ab36/IronKobra84/WIPSternguard37.jpg
Seva
I think the "cream" looks really good with the red of the Blood Angels. (Nice vets btw Kobra) I have tried all types of colors. Black looks good until you start highlighting it. I tried (and failed) with white on my guys. It didn't look quite right. The cream color works the best for Blood Angel robes I think due to the warmth of the red. White, I really want a pure white to work and I know it should, but something in my execution of the color just wasn't right. I love dark models and dark moods to models I just think that too much darkness becomes a parody. I know black can work as well, its all in the highlights and how high you want to make them. Black cloth highlights differently than black armor if that makes any sense at all. Same with white; white i can do for armor no problem. White cloth just looked "bleached out". Like I said, I know it can be done, I just don't have the skill yet is all. I think white looks better on Ultras or any of the blue armies than it does for Blood Angels. It's all very subjective however. Good luck with your robes!
Rob_Loken
I use blue. Just cos I like blue. I think it contrasts nicely with the reds and yellows. :)
Taz
I usually opt towards cream since, as Seva put it, it works well with the warmth of the reds. I'm always looking for colors that match well with the reds of the BA armor. I've had some success with purples and greens, though only in small quantities like on gems. I've considered doing greens for a cape but I worry that it'll make the models too "christmas-ey," especially with the inevitable addition of gold. Seva, your problem with white on capes may lie in the color of your undercoat. Undercoats like the typical codex-fortress gray undercoat make for a very cool white that contrasts with the reds. I haven't tried this yet so I can't vouch this'll work, but I've been toying with the idea of progressively-lightened coats of Dheneb Stone to Skull White, perhaps with a SW Gray transition in the middle. Maybe you should give it a shot if you get the chance. Kobra I'd love to hear your recipie for those robes.
Zid
Grey when the armors blue/darker colors, bone white when they're lighter colors (red)
IronKobra
Kobra I'd love to hear your recipie for those robes. I started with Graveyard earth and just built up the colours by addng a little Dheneb stone into the mix, and successively highlighting... Last stage was a mix of bone and white. Seva has some very similar (but I think much more striking) Vets with a similar scheme...The cream colour just works against red! Thanks Seva :)
MaleOpener
I prefer the bone color often seen on DA models.
