PorridgeMeister
I was just reading "A Thousand Sons" again and in particular, the Council of Nikea. Before the Emperor gives judgement on Magnus, twelve Librarians, including their Legion's Chief Librarians, from the Dark Angels, Night Lords, Salamanders and White Scars, give testimony at the Council. After this the Emperor obviously proclaims judgement about the Astartes' Librarii being disbanded and use of psychic powers being prohibited. Now in "Fallen Angels", Zahariel and Israfael are Librarians in the Dark Angels Legion and they openly use their powers on Caliban. Is this; - a descrepancy because of a mixed author trilogy? - a canon cross-referencing fail? - NOT a descrepancy: the Dark Angels on Caliban simply didn't know yet about Nikea's outcome. - NOT a descrepancy: the Dark Angels on Caliban simply IGNORED about Nikea's outcome. Razhbad
Ok, first off at this time the warp was beginning to churn up making travel and communication harder. As this was chaos' prelude to the war. It might be that Caliban never received the news of Nikea's edicts. Of course they do later fall so when they do find out they may not care. Also there were chapters who defied the Emperor's edict (Space Wolves for one) and continued to use Librarians. After all if they had not then there would be no 40k Librarians. Candleshoes
Caliban is a long way from Terra my friend. Also, Luther, Master of Caliban would have been the one who received the mandate. He owes his fealty directly to the Lion and Caliban, not to Emperor, especially during this time. If he decided against the Council's decision, no one on the face of Caliban would question him. As for what the Lion did, that is a whole different jar of pickles. NightrawenII
Or: - It is a discrepancy: the conclusion of Council of Nikea was retconned.
