Fluff Question . .

Recommended Posts

I could swear there was a chapter that had a warp accident and just burst into flame, and it wasn't the legion of the damned.

I'm looking for an excuse to paint some marines in black armor who are on fire, but that it's not just painted on.. IE, not LOTD

From the top of my hat I can't remember any specific mention of a BA Successor as a whole or partly vanishing into the warp. But that does not mean none of them ever lost a ship (it doesn't have to be the whole chapter...) during warp travel. Considering the dangers, it would not be out of the realm of the possible of something like this happening.

Though most people will probably want to hear more of an explanation than "It's the same that happened to the Flame Falcons.". Or maybe not. Who's to say the Flame Falcons were the only ones to catch this mysterious "warp disease".

Ah, yes, the flame falcons.

Dammit, if only they had a black and not red color scheme. hmm.

The Flame Falcons were the cursed founding Chapter that burst into flames. But I don't think that GW ever showed any official scheme for them. Maybe you confused them with the FW Fire Hawks(now LotD) scheme or the Angels of Fire? But since they are burning their armor's paint would probably have burned off and left them with sooty black ceramite...

Thanks, Durus. :HQ:

Basically what I want is a cross between what is the LotD and the Flame Falcons. I was under the assumption that the LoTD actually WERE on fire, but it's mostly just painted on, which won't really work for the 'crackling lava' that I have in mind to go over top of the black paint scheme. Essentially, my thoughts had to originally play LoTD with the Blood Angels codex since the disease was supposed to drive them mad and violent beyond caring for life (Death Company, Anyone?) and such and such.

But, they're not actually on fire, they just have it painted on.

Bah. :)

Now the Flame Falcons are actually on fire, but they were supposed to have been wiped out by the inquisition for the most part.

Stupid LoTD fluff rewrites . . I could have sworn they were ghostly and on fire at one point in their history.

You know, I am one of those people who thinks its your army go your own way. Just rules wise stick with one codex. If you like the idea of a BA rules based army with the marines being actually on fire there are plenty of reasons to justify it. You could have the warp disease suggested before. You could also say it was a dying curse upon a company of marines by a greater demon whose domain they tore down to make way for propper Imperial rule. With the amount of time that so many chapters have been plying the warp you can come up with pretty much any justification that would fit due to the completely random nature of chaos and the near limitless potential for it to make a mess of anything.
As a Legion player. I think you need to ask yourself a question about how it is you interpret the LotD. Personally I think they are essentially what amounts to 'good' daemons. Which means if you want them to be Flaming and have their armour crackling and melting then go for it. I did a Daemon army for them which is skeletal scouts immolated in fire as they walk, Terminators with Flame burning its what out of the cracks in their armour. A Dreadnought which houses a skeletal marine screeching out of the sarcoughagus as it carries a flaming sword. It is to me what I feel the LotD is and everyone who has seen the army certainly seems to think it is LotD though not all agree.
