Galacticz
Hey all, I am new to WH40k. Originally, I wanted to play orks. Matter of fact, I have about 300 dollars worth of Models for Orks. And I am not planning on letting them go to waste. But I have recently fallen in love with the Blood Angels and I really want to play them. Which brings me to my point. I have been hearing a TON of mixed rumors, which is driving me insane. From people at my store and on the internet alike. People have been talking about how BA's were getting new models in February. Which they did; Battleforce, Stormraven, and New Dreadnaught box. Woo! I like it. But I also hear that BA is supposed to be getting another codex... this april. This confuses me. I thought BA got a new codex LAST april. I see posts from last april talking about a New BA codex, and what people think about it; but then on Warseer, people are quoting a newletter dated december 2010 talking about a new codex coming in april (of 2011 i assume). I cannot find anything to confirm this whatsoever!! Whenever i look, i keep finding posts from 2008 and 2010, saying the same exact thing! Its soo confusing. Someone Please clarify if BA's are getting even more models and a new codex THIS April, or if that was last year's news. Also, I have a few questions about the rules in the current codex (Which I bought, because I was under the impression that the current codex is the new codex.) Can a Furioso Dread be upgraded to Venerable? What is a good way to use Dante's Hit and Run rule? Are Death Co worth the points for such a risky unit? And Are Sang Guard any good? Sorry if this post has been a little manic and scatter-brained, I am running on no sleep and massive amounts of caffeine. -------------------------------------------------------------- I found the post on warseer implying a codex THIS april Games WorkshopThe Games Workshop Newsletter 10.01.2010 In this issue: Incoming! Blood Angels Incoming! Blood Angels This April the Blood Angels will be re-launched with an all-new Codex and range of plastic and metal miniatures. One of the oldest and noblest of all Space Marine Chapters, the Blood Angels have stood fast against the enemies of the Imperium since the Great Crusade and it was their Primarch Sanguinius, who laid down his life to aid the Emperor against Horus in the final hours of the Warmaster’s rebellion. The new Codex explores the background and history of these superhuman warriors like never before, and contains new artwork depicting some of their greatest battles and most powerful champions. The Blood Angels have always been a powerful close combat army and have been made even deadlier thanks to a range of specialist wargear, the ability to field Assault Squads as Troops choices, and more Dreadnoughts than any other Space Marine Chapter, including a Death Company Dreadnought and the fabled Furioso Dreadnought. The Sons of Sanguinius will be deep striking onto a tabletop near you this April – now’s the time to practice painting red. Blood Angels EDIT: Doh.. I realize this is from JANUARY of last year... isn't it? *Facepalms* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222006-im-so-confused/ Share on other sites
TrentL
So no new codex for the BA, I think its pretty much set in stone the next imperial release will be Grey Knights, which also have Storm Ravens so you may want to hold off, as if you like the idea of Storm Ravens ... GK Termies I hear are pretty gross... Now if you like the Fluff of the BA's and the Angellic feel go for it! I have watched alot of Jawaball's stuff and I guess thats what has gotten me into this army! JamesI
Welcome Galacticz! We can not upgrade any dread to Venerable status, which is unfortunate. I haven't used Dante before, but the Hit and Run rule is a nice one for jump infantry. At the end of an opponent's assault phase you can leave combat and then charge right back in with furious charge again. I'm personally not a fan of DC. But others are, they really are a unit that works for some and not others. If you do take them, don't go with jump packs, try a rhino or land raider or even storm raven for them. I don't have much experience with SG, I would tend to only use them with Dante to make them troops. Volchek
Hey there! Welcome Aboard! To answer your questions: A Furioso is a Venerable Blood Angels dread that is a close assault oriented dread. It has higher AV13 on front armour, 3 attacks, and WS 6. Dante's Hit & Run ability is best used with a focused close assault unit, like a full sized Assault Squad, a CC oriented Honor Guard, or with a unit of Sanguinary Guard. Don't attach Dante to a unit of Vanguard Veterans until after they've Deep Striked and used Heroic Intervention to assault something. It's best if whatever unit Dante is attached to is also equipped with Jump Packs so you get maximum distance from the enemy before you re-charge them or another unit after using Hit & Run to break from close combat. Death Company are good as long as you provide them with a transport like a Rhino or put them in a Storm Raven. This makes them controllable to a great extent. It's good to attach a librarian or chaplain with them to maximize their attacks on a charge. Personally I'd never put Jump Packs on a unit of Death Company, although if you do keep in mind that Dante's Hit & Run will work with Death Company just like any other unit as long as the Death Company move/charge towards the closest visible enemy due to the Rage rule. Sanguinary Guard are great as long as you use them like a scalpel, even better if you attach a Sanguinary Priest or run them with a support unit of Jump Pack equipped Honor Guard. Having a Priest or Sanguinary Novitiate in range of SG when they charge makes them even more scary in CC than they already are. Gv0zD
Welcome aboard, mate! You've done the best introduction everrr <_< But no worries, caffeine and no sleep make us do irrational things :P As for your questions. Dante is better used in combination with Sanguinary Guard, so you they were Troops, and hi Hit And Run will allow you make surgical attacks and avoid prolonged close combat. And no scatter at deep strike is also handy. Death Company is a great unit, at least in my opinion. They are your hammer, hitting hard, chopping almost anything thrown at them. However their Rage makes them hard to control, but if they get to the enemies, they'll do their best to kill them. Using transport to deliver them where you want is a good idea (I prefer DropPod). Sanguinmary Guard is also a great unit, but they require certain skill. They are not Termies to be thrown at the enemy - they are your scalpel, used to cut down and finish off elite units. You should look here for tactical advice regarding SG. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222006-im-so-confused/#findComment-2652657 Share on other sites
Brother Nathan
lots of ways to use dante. he can do an all sanguard army. or just sstick him with asquad loaded with melta and his pin point drop to kill anything. persoanlly a see an hounour guard is the best bet as you can do lots of melta and good cc at the same time, and also gt the priest exactly where you want( right beside those vanguard vets...) also with dc can be expensive but using hit and run... nasty... Death co can be great, they can be no better than normal marines. realy jump packs cost far too much, but theeir special characters come ewith packs...? personally they need to be without packs to keep them viable, and a chaplin makes them so much more deadly. but rembar they have rage and arnt scoring. two edged sword if ever there was one. they also unlock dc dreads so if you take dc you may as well... realy everything in our dex works. its up to you to find what you like and can make work for you. Brother Yorei
in reply to intro post. codex was released april 2010 along with new death company and sanguinary guard kits. (each kits has TONS of extra bits) also, there were new models for all but 3 special characters. february 2011. new dreadnought kit lets you make furioso, death co. furioso and librarian furioso. could also make regular dreads. stormraven kit also released. and a battle force box. battle force has a rhino, tac squad, assault squad and death company. you pretty much get the rhino for free. this battle force is great for new blood angels players. Judaz
Oh how I wish that we could get a new codex. They don't need to fix anything in it, even the things that are errated and FAQ'd. I just want a better looking codex with a cover that has been drawn by a real artist and not some random girlfriend/boyfriend to an employee at GW. God, I really hate that cover. I welcome you to the angelic host Galacticz. If I were you I'd start with buying the ugly codex (it looks nice inside once you get past the cover) and read it through. Get a feel for the army you want to play and then get some models. There is no need to buy a BA battleforce if your goal is to play a sanguinary guard or an all JP army. And I actually think our battleforce is a bad deal, but others think it's great so I leave it to you. There is a number of ways to play BA, but most important is to have fun. I play a Dreadnought army. It's really not that good, but it's fun and I love dreads :) Have fun and welcome to the true angels of death. BrotherMoses
There are no bad choices with our codex. Everything has a place one way or another. You have everything you need to be a Son of Sanguinius. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222006-im-so-confused/#findComment-2653573 Share on other sites
Galacticz
Wow! Lots of replies since i got back home! Cool! @Baba Lem: haha! I agree, but it seems all my 'rage' needed was a little food and a 1.5 hour nap! Now everything is all good in the hood! @Judaz: Bought the codex yesterday, and I totally agree. Cover art is... yeah... *laughs*, but as for list diversity, it seems excellent! Love all the heavy weapons and survivability Orks lack! @Brothermoses: Agreed. Its a very balanced book. Lots of great units, I am just disappointed that I can't have a furioso librarian with BludTals!! Unleash Rage and Wings would do wonders. Or even sword for that matter..
