Korvydae
Hi there, I am new to theses here hallowed halls of B&C. I am a mod and regular poster on another wargaming forum, but thought I would diversify a bit! Currently own a Raven Guard army of around 3- 3.5k points. But I am looking to get rid/repaint it as I never use it as don't get to game these days. I am in the process of repainting some of them as Salamanders for a small "Tale of Badab" thing we got going on the other forum. I am also painting up Captain Korvydae as its a lovely model. I will also make a unit of 5 Vangaurd to go with him, all with twin lightning claws, jump packs and the FW upgrade torsos/helmets etc. Anyways pics! Shadow Nugz
I'm liking the Raven Guard captain, looks very time consuming. A suggestion would be to clean up the eyes on the Salamanders, other wise looking very nice. Grotsmasha
Those be some really nice paint jobs, gunna throw some fluff at ya, Salamanders have red, glowing eyes... Keep up the good work, Jono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222040-raven-guard-and-salamanders/#findComment-2653400 Share on other sites
CompanyChampionSiege
And they are not african/american black skinned. They are Onyx/Charcoal black. Keep it up though, the rest of it looks good. Malus Trux
They used to be. Actually there's a few players from 4th & older that don't like the fluff change, myself included (radiation doesn't work that way, did someone in GW grow up in the 50s?) If you bring up the Salamanders' skin then Korvydae should be albino white with coal black eyes. Anyways I really like the flames painted on the shoulder pads. Simple but effective display of the Promethium cult. I wish I had half that much skill with paint. The Chappie is awesome. Nice to see some Xavier bits. Korvydae
Thanks for the replies/advice. As for the skin/eyes on the Salamanders. I know of this fluff change but I don't like it either. Salamanders were my first army years ago and so they were painted as they were in the Armageddon codex, in which they had yellow helmet lenses. I paint them brown skinned, rather than black as I think the black looks a bit daft. I thought the skin on the Captain was pretty pale, the final highlight is pure white on him and the shading is subtle. I think once you see his head on against his black armour you will see its quite pale. I did try to make his pupils a bit bigger than normal, but without making his entire eye black. @Malus Trux - Thanks, I was pleased with how he came out. The body is from the Chronus model as I thought the more unique/techy armour suited a Salamander quite well. The cloak is from a Dark Elf Corsair I think. The head is from the GD Marine Captain. Malus Trux
Ah, I was wondering where the servo-arm was from. Heck the whole thing goes together great. Now I recognize the helmet on Capt. Tippitoes (sorry GW's fault for that nickname). I just noticed the free hand Salamander symbol. Nice. Korvydae
Cheers mate. Yeah I thought that the helmet was very suited to a suit of Articifer Armour really, and fitted the Salamander theme pretty well. Yeah I was well pleased I managed to freehand the Sally symbol, I am using the transfers for the line troops though and using Micro Set and Micro Sol to flatten it properly as they don't lie properly with water alone. I think on some models I will do what I did with my Kill Team and GS flames on the ankles, shoulder pads etc. Simple to do and gives a bit more 3d to the flames than the painted on ones. Korvydae
I have taken some more pics of the updated head for Korvydae, not much change just a little more definition in the lips I hope and tidied up a black mark I found on the back of the head. I also have some pics of the state of the body so far, just detailed up the numerous things on the body section. I am also tidying up some more marines ready for painting to add to the squad of Salamanders which is started above. Pics later all going to plan.
