Hear da Lamentation
First game in a GW store. People were nice and friendly, game pace was manic (only ever played against my mates where we usually take 3-4 hours – and a number of beers – to play.) My army was RunePriest MH,JoWW 8xGrey Hunters mg,ws,motw 1xWolf Guard cmg,pf rhino 9xGrey Hunters mg,ws,motw 1xWolf Guard cmg,pf Rhino 10xGrey Hunters 2xpg rhino 5xLongFangs (4xml) + pack leader 4xLongFangs (4xml,1xlc) + pack leader Wolf Lord Magma (RA, TH/SS, Saga of Bear, bike) 3 x SwiftClaw Bikers, mg 1 x attackbike (mm) 1 x WolfGuard (pf,cmg, bike) Foe was Space Marines, game annihilation. He went first and put a dev squad in my left corner in a high buiding. He hid his 2 rhinos full of tacs and ironclad dread behind that building and put his landraider (carrying a captain with powerfist and iron priest equiv.) on my right, with a tactical unit with lascannon. I kept my main force on the opposite right side around a hill surrounded by with trees with a building between me and the devs and facing the landraider, with a LF pack on my left facing the rhinos and devs. (mistake on my part). I failed to steal, and first few rounds of shooting saw him on top, killing my misplaced LF. 3rd round was pivotal, my 1 LC immobilised his LR just as my bikers turbo’d into melta/assault range. Captain and tech-marine got out, got killed by bikers, who then melta’d the LR, blowing it. Rest of the game saw a shoot out, then assault between our troops in the middle of the board, which I won (with the help of my lord breaking off from the bikers). The remaining bikers took out the dread with the meltas. Ended up 6 – 2. Really enjoyed the game and pleased bikers performed so well. Those 3 meltas (multi, melta and combi-melta) really are a nice combo to a fast moving unit which is also kicking out quite a lot of cc hits. H.D.L. Grimtooth
I used to like using bikes in my old 13th Co list but with their now reduced stats due to just being BC on bikes, I just haven't found them reliable. Good use of them being equipped with melta. That type of anti-tank has the mobilty to put down armor at a distance forcing a mobilized army to footslogging. nurglez
Cool, glad you had a good game, I played in GW plaza today, lost to RebG from this forum, 5-7KP, with his angel sanguine jump pack and storm raven carrying death company + chaplian + death company dread. It's our 4th game and his first win so I'm not doing too bad heh. I may actually play a game vs someone there I dont know, should be good. It's weird playing for a crowd you dont know and having to explain your choices, but you can get good insight's into how ever people play. Once again, glad you had fun and keep the games going  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222122-bat-rep-from-1st-gw-game/#findComment-2654757 Share on other sites
Adarul Greystalker
I really like the list you used. My mechanized grey hunter setup is extremely similar (I use power weapons instead of marks of the wulfen and I also have a razorback squad with a flamer). Using them in conjunction with long fangs and a tough fast attack assault squad is exactly what I'm going for (or will be when I get more missile launchers) and seems to be extremely tactically flexible. Hear da Lamentation
Thanks Adarul, much appreciated. I've had a lot of advice from Littlbitz about using the bikers and I still find them a challenge to use. As you say, they are very versatile, but it is often difficult to decide how to use them best. They are fragile in a way, their low numbers mean they are really vulnerable to AP3 weapons and they often get killed in my games. But they always make their presence felt and at a minimum are a worry to the enemy (which can't be overlooked.) I know the "BC on bikes" thing puts a lot off, the WS3 makes them a little easier to hit, but no less effective attacking. +2 attacks on the charge, giving them 4 attacks each is really nice though. Their BS3 is largely tempered by the twin-linked bolter, so their shooting is usually pretty good. The down point is you need a leader with them and the WG is expensive, but you want him anyway for the powerfist and combi-melta.
