Gv0zD
Hi, everybody! I'm running a DoA list and my HQ is a Libby with Honor Guard. I initially wanted them to be my anti-tank unit with 4xMGs and Libby's Blood Lance, but then I thought if it would be a bit too much. 4 melta shots with a Blood Lance could pop up almost any tank, but then these HG lose their close combat power. So I though of keeping 2xMGs while swapping the other two with PWs (primarily, a Chapter Banner w/PW and Blood Champ). Is such combination worth it, or it lacks both anti-armor fire and HtH power? The said loadout will cost me 250 pts (with JP) and I don't want them to exceed this cost. So, the question is: what do you think of this loadout (2xMG, PW, Chapter Banner, Blood Champion) and if you find it bad, what would you suggest (considering I'd like to keep their anti-armor capabilities)? What power should the Libby have depending on the HG wargear? Thanks in advance! +EDIT+ The said HG is to be used in 1,5k list possibly with no Sanguinary Guard. BrotherMoses
loadout is fine for what you're doing. LIbby should go shield and bloodlance I think. Have you considered plasma instead of melta? Just a though since you have to have a priest in there and you're jumping in with DOA. 4 str shots coming in at someone is going to be hard to forget and you could still pop lighter armor from the rear. That said, if you see a lot of av 14 or land raiders you'll probably want to stick with two meltas. Not sure if chapter banner is worth it. May want to save points for company banner. There is nothing wrong with a more shooty honor guard. Eorek
Well... I use my honour guard as a FNP/FC bubble and tank hunters... My setup on them: Blood champion(turning the tide of combat againt other powerarmour armies). 2 melta guns and 2 melta bombs set up like following: meltagun + melta bomb, melta gun and a honour guard with only a melta bomb to make them unique (so allocate wound easier) 2 melta guns and 2 melta bombs get the job done against most tanks, I'd not use a honour guard as a melée unit... there are bette choices for that...but if I had to... 1 - Blood champ (ws 5 is awesome when facing other marines) 2 - Melta gun+Lightning claw :(vs T4 and possibly even T3 lightning claws are better than power wepons. and you don't get the extra attack from having a pistol on em anyways...so might aswell take a melta gun.) 3 - Melta gun+Lightning claw + chapter banner 4 - This dude you could give a storm shield for those nasty armour ignore / ap 2-3 wounds... He'll die if you're good at rolling 1-2 ... but each save he takes he'll save another of his expensive brethren 5 - A sanguinary priest... can't give him gear Librarian - I'd never play with anyother hq than mephiston... not even at 500 points:P but it I had to: I'd use Unleash rage + the sanguine sword . The sanguine sword means that you can instant kill most monstrous creatures with your force weapon quite easy... and s10 ain't a bad thing vs tanks/walkers either. Unleash rage is nice simply because: there isn't anything better than rerolls in my opinion:P you could make him abit overkill and take that librarian upgrade for another psychic power and take the blood lance... but it's expensive... and you'll use the blood lance only once or twice since you're melta-guards will be able to handle most tanks when it comes to shoothing, and if they can't you charge and your librarian will rip that tank apart. ... Though I'd still use mephiston + a none-combat melta gun spammed honour guard:P They wreck a rhino/land raider + mephiston kills the stuff on the inside =profit:P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222148-honor-guard-loadout/#findComment-2655093 Share on other sites
Gv0zD
Wow! Thanks for the input, Eorek! :D It seems that I should take Blood Champion in any case, as he'll be able to fend off anyone who gets into CC with my HG. I run my HG in a DoA list with PW-heavy Vanguard Vets, so they are mostly taken for tank-hunting and FC/FNP. I thought that adding some CC capability, I'll allow my HG to aid my VV and be able to fight on their own (just in case). @ BrotherMoses: I've considered PlasmaGuns. They're delicious, but suspicious. S7 AP2 fire is good, but Rapid Fire prevents them from assaulting, and I find it useful sometimes, especially with Blood Champion, LC or another PW and Libby with URage. I think, I'll need to think it over again, though. Another question just occurred: if I take Sang Guard with Chapter Banner in my list, is it a good idea to take Company Banner for my HG? Does anyone use it? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222148-honor-guard-loadout/#findComment-2655107 Share on other sites
Eorek
Personally I'd prefer not rerolling my leadership... loosing combat is a good thing sometimes(if you lost it's better running from that unit) And since you got and they shall know no fear you cannot be wiped out from loosing... Also as BA you have alot of fearless units... among them the red thirst... I'd put the points else where than in a company standard. Though having alot of banners might look good:D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222148-honor-guard-loadout/#findComment-2655144 Share on other sites
