Fiander101
Hi All, I'm new to 40k (never played a game!), but not new to Games Workshop. I've wanted to get into 40k for quite a while, but could never decide which army I liked the most, (I've got a few codexes) I've recently aquired the Blood Angels and instantly knew they where for me! Love the fluff and the models, and the ability to kitbash till the cows come home. Now, as I said above, I've never played a game of 40k, but I would like to, and with that in mind I've devised this cunning 1000 point list (not really!, I haven't got a clue!), as a start point, and I would like some help and advice from you kind fellows. So, without further ado here it is:- HQ Library Epilostary Plasma Pistol 165 Elite Chaplain Jumpack 125 Troops Tactical Squad 5 Man Plasma Pistol Power Weapon Melta Bombs Razorback Lascannon 215 Assault Squad 10 Man Flamer Infernus Pistol Power Weapon Melta Bombs Melta Gun 245 Fast Baal Predator Heavy Flamer Storm Bolter 150 Heavy Predator Heavy Bolter 100 Now, I apologise for any mistakes, and thanks in advance for any help/advice. Oh, and I haven't a clue about tactics, so could do with a bit of help there as well!!
Emperors Immortals
First, welcome to teh winning team :P Now, your list looks pretty good, but i would consider dropping the tac squad for a assault squad in the razor for the special weapon or just mounting the tac in a rhino (200 odd pts for 10 with free heavy and spec). Id also drop one of the HQ choices at 1000pts level, id personally drop both and take a rec for the assault squad. Consider dropping the pred to take a priest or even a HG to run with the Rec/Lib That should get close to 1000pts, but just remember to include any units you feel you cant do without ;)
Brother Nathan
plasma pistols over heat, id not bother with them. also the epistolory upgrade isnt that nsisary as a few of our powers can be used in either players turn so you could save points there... troops 5 man tactical... i wouldnt bother with any less than 10 man tactical, because of the special and heavy. for 5 man, use a 5 man assaultsauad and use the loosing jumpacks for a discount. you can then also take a melta gun and give the sarge an infernus if you want.. the assault squad, give them 2 melta guns before bothering to give the sarge an infernus. for the points it aint worth it over the melta gun. if you can get the points look into a sanguary priest for with the assault squad with a jump pack. if you can squeeze a power weapon on him too its all good... Emperors Immortals
ALthough i personally take plasma where i can (except against MEQ i take melta for instakill) i also take a priest or two.I feel FnP makes plasma worthwhile. A HG unit with 4 plasma pumps out 8 S7 shots per turn, pity theres no assault after though.

shan vener
Welcome to the Blood Angels!!! let me give some advice that i have learned the hard way in my 2 years of blood angels 1. do NOT under estimate sanguinary guard, EVER. 2. Dante is arguably the best HQ in the book. (I even take him in 500 point games) 3. don't under estimate the death company 4. when kitting assault squads, buy the full melta gun or flamer. while yes, the pistol versions keep the chain sword, the range and power is well worth it hope this has helped Shan Vener
shatter
From a modeling & gaming basis for a new player, I think it's a very good list as is.
Fiander101
Thanks for the replies guys! The main reason for the 5 man tactical squad is that I have the parts for 5 Marines in my bits box (unfortunatley, no Jump Packs), and I was going to use these as test pieces for the paint job, same with the Razorback. I was thinking, once I had my first 1000 points done, I would then increase the tactical squad up to 10, as well as adding another Assault Sqaud. I think (hope) this will give me a solid base to grow my force from. Just assembled the Tactical Marines this afternoon, once they are painted I'll post them and let you have a ganders! Cheers again

captain maleck
Echoing shan vener, welcome to the team and to warhammer 40K, For a 1000pts army it's not too shabby. It's a good start to begin with, from which you can build up your army. I noticed, you asked for a wee pointer on tactics. So here's a few things I try to bear in mind when I play. Depending, on the game you play, a tactical squad is great for just sitting on an objective. If you have a full tactical squad then you have the option of splitting the squad into two five man combat squads, which will allow to cover more ground, and potentially capture objectives. If I weren't going to take a small squad of death company with jump packs, then an assault squad would be my next choice. I would, also, do something similar to what you've got, except I'd make sure that they have a pistol of some sort, if not a bolt pistol, and a chainsword (the sergeant would have a power sword, which cuts through armour on a successful 'to wound' roll). I would then aim to throw these guys into combat as soon as possible, which would then lock up enemy infantry units (for at least half a turn, potentially). I'd also not split the squad up as this gives you a chance to get more attacks in, providing your opponent doesn't have a higher initiative. Also, if you can squeeze the points, take a sanguinary priest with a jump pack, as this gives the squad furious charge (+1 initiative and strength on the charge) and feel no pain (a 1 in 2 chance of most unsaved wounds negated. Only those weapons that are strength double toughness, or those that cause instant death can't be negated), which makes the squad more resilient. The baal predator would be great for zooming around the field and hosing out those pesky enemy troops holding objectives (if equipped with a flamestorm cannon and heavy flamer side sponsons) or providing a solid defence with the assault cannon and heavy bolter side sponsons. Finally a predator, with a normal weapon load-out generally classified as an infantry killer, but it's not too shabby and taking out the odd tank as well. Hence, I'd try to field the tank as a hunter of some sort, be infantry or tank. Hope this provides a bit of help. Captain Maleck For the Blood of Sanguinius!!!! I used Dante (and the Sanguinary Guard) in two 500 point battles against both Orks and Chaos. Adding a Sanguinary Priest really saved the Sanguinary Guard. I failed 4 armour saves against the Ork Boyz but was able to save all of them due to Feel No Pain... When I make a armylist I always include a Sanguinary Priest.
