Spirit Wolf Badge

Wulfenstein

I don't have the codex but assume that it is the wolf that looks like a spirit.

The symbol of the Spirit Wolf has fallen out of favour as it has a bit of a reputation of being a sign of ill-omen and you know how supersticious us Wolves are!!

There was a small piece in UK WD359 p44 that mentions that Kyrl Grimblood was the last Wolf Lord of any note to have chosen it for his sigil. It was his Great Company that saved Fenris from Cardinal Bucharis in M36.

10 years ago I was obsessed with finding out about this symbol. I *think* it had something to do with scouts... Or maybe I just remember one of the scout images with a shotgun in the 3rd ed. codex had the Spirit Wolf symbol...

Best of luck and post any findings! I'd like to re-learn about them too.

The Spirit Wolf used to be the favored emblem of rune priests....but that was many writers past. There was not a lot of explanation done about the legends of the Wolves that Leman Russ conquered to bring under his domain. There are the current 13 and that was about it.

good memory on the wolf scout! the spirit wolf badge is indeed on the left knee pad. i remember it well, because that picture is one of my favorites. hold on a sec, let me check..... yup pg 9. top right hand corner from the last codex, also on pg 13 there is a full great company fighting nids that all bare the spirit wolf badge. the caption on the picture hints that it's "Bran Redmow, bloody-handed warrior bla bla bla..."

not sure if this is the same Bran Redmaw we know today with the bloodied hunter icon?! but seeing as the two last names are spelled different.. or if it is actually the same person, and its just a type-o?! anyway, i'm going to completely ignore the entire caption! seeing as the quote is the same as Logan Grimnar's quote in 2nd edition codex, replaced only with Bran Redmow's name.

my Kyrl question was more or less meant more or less about a badge.. which in the pic..if it's even him shows the snout of a wolf ..and no more. But I think it was a John Blanche pic as with many others in the second ed codex. Their are a few pictures where the space wolfe had a back banner and or shoulder pad with a picture of a "live" wolf on it. where as to days wolf badges are more like "icons".

The picture I was referring to, is also shown in the new wolf codex, pg 13 on the lower right hand.

It's been my GC marking since '96 so it's good to see some bit of fluff appearing here and there.

As a theme, my GC is fleet-based strike force that always has plenty of WSs in place ahead of an action.

Rarely see many vehicles in play - too much noise in the approach :D

I'm now concentrating on a 30K variant and wolves are figuring more and more (although TWC are kept away from club games)

In my experience, it's only an unlucky sign for those on the receiving end...
