Not Deathwatch...

Recommended Posts

The surviving members of Scythes of the Emperor specialise in 'Nid killing. The surviving members of the Crimson Fists specialise in Ork killing. Both of these have a reason to drive themselves to excel at their specialty.

So think of a Reason and you have it. Perhaps they are located in an area of space with many, many ork worlds. They are traditionally good at fighting orks because they have been a constant punching bag for the last several millenia. Then the nids show up and nom nom nom their way through half the chapter (and probably some of the orks) and the leader of the chapter decrees that they need to seriously get to grips with this new threat.

Or you could have them descend from a 'hunters are venerated' culture and have them only be allowed to eat what they have killed. You can feed a squad for a month of a carnifex.

You could probly feed a whole company for a few years on a fex. I was thinking Taken from the Ultra geneseed, with Tyrannic Vet in training cadre, mainly fleet based but trained in area with high population of Orks, rest of chapter flies around killing (And occasionally Omnomnomnoming? ;) ) Tyranids.

Anyway what i was really asking is: Is it plausible for that to happen? or would the Inquisition say "Het guys, we've already got the Deathwatch, no need for another chapter"...

Yeah, i was more thinking have specialists in each company, and each marine is taught what the Tyrannic Vet taught them at the founding...

Edit:

just read the DIY bit about Tyranids, and i see what you mean they need to be doing stuff before the Tyranids arrive...Penitant crusade anyone?

This may be a bad idea. From what I remember of Tyranid anatomy (I was one of those people who actually read all the made up biological dissection discoveries at the back of the 3rd edition dex  ) Phage cells would make for a nasty belly ache, even in an Astartes body. A lethal, painful, slow death of a belly ache.

As for Orks...I can't say the Marines would end up poisoned...but more than a few people would look at them funny. If I'm right the Sons of Malice renegade marines were kicked out for eating their kills (human kills mind you, but anyway). It does have a sort of interesting barbaric appeal to it, but I imagine most people would look at them at best the same way that Tau look at Kroot. Unless they've got a mind not to start eating Eldar brains (braaaaaaaaaaains...) when Inquisitor Bob is around, it'd likely be a source of some trouble.

Then again, a bunch of Flamer wielding marines with "Kiss the Cook" aprons would likely win my approval...

Actually if there were one thing that I would believe was powerful enough to overcome an Astartes immunity against poisons it would be Orks' personal hygiene or rather lack there of.

Brother Steve: "Blech...man this Ork tastes like...well, :) !

Brother Roy: "Yeah...probably on account of all the <_< ...moron.
