Xeno neighbours?

Today I read our codex while in the bathroom, as usual. Best bathroom reading ever!

Everytme I read it I see something I've missed the time before. On pg.17 under 'The Darkest hour' we can read that Dante makes all kinds of alliances. Even with non-humans! Seems that BA ain't as narrowminded as many of our brother chapters around the galaxy.

But my question is, since I'm not really good at 40k geography, who lives next door to us? What type of xenos are we making alliances with when facing the threat of both Tyranids and Chaos?

Kezef is probably right. I think the idea of any other numerous xenos force apart from Eldar, Orks, Nids and Necron in that region of space is silly. The only place where the other Xenos should be are the outer rim, like the Tau where the Great Crusade never reached.

ignore that bit about the necron hugging :P someone was high when they wrote that....

tbh the only somewhat viable allies are Eldar and Tau. and Tau only if things happen in their inmediate area since they are isolated to the galactic east. Eldar also only help if it suits their interests so they make fickle allies if anything at the best of times ;)

Orks: Don't think so, they don't care who they fight and it's kinda hard to disuss with them, maybe Ghazkhull has the brains to cooperate, but I don't think so.

Necrons: No. Just no.

Imperial Guard: Already there.

Dark Eldar: They will probably be involved in the fighting, but not on anyones side.

Tau: Sure thing. If they lived nearby.

Eldar: Yeah, only ones that can cooperate actually.

I can't seem to find any craftworlds nearby. But since the Eldar knows that the Blood Angels are the galaxy's best hope for a perfect world, they'll probably gate in and have a chat with Dante.

Maybe I'll get me some marines carrying Shrieker Cannons :D

My guess is Eldar to be honest, they would realize the serious blow to the Galaxy the death of the Blood Angels would be. Also it i shinted that Dante has some greater purpose in his future, perhaps the Eldar know what this is and it also has importance to the Galaxy as a whole and so will support Dante in the Darkest Hours of Baal.

I think that the Imperium of Man is an irredemably xenophobic state, and that its living paragons the Adeptus Astartes are wildly unlikely to make deals with Aliens. However, there is an undercurrent of 'The elves are quite nice', so in the Dawn of War computer games and BL books there is often a temporary truce with Eldar as being not quite as bad as other aliens. The Eldar are 'neighbours' in that crafworlds move around.

In Angels of Death the Allies section lists obvious imperial armies but also 'Squats' (don't ask) and 'Eldar', showing that was GW's thinking back in 1996 at least.

In regard to the current Codex's mention of alliance with the Necrons. This is either a sort of joke at the expense of the previous quite clear depictions of the BA as vampires, so the two 'undead' armies co-operating with each other - Vampire Counts meets Tomb Kings. Or perhaps it shows a future approach to the Necrons (long overdue for a new Codex) giving them sllightly more sympathy and a wider range of heroes.

Or maybe the Eldar really really dont want the Nids getting hold of a Primarchs DNA. Given what they came out with when they got hold of normal SM genetic mass, I really dont think the galaxy is ready for the kind of Flyrant that would come out after they got his body... (and it would have to be a Flyrant!)

Possibilty that the BA's might entice a small ork horde onto a few asteroids to delay or distract a splinter of the fleet - the use of enemies to destroy each other is a difficult thing to do, but I'm sure a Commander who can fight an enemy who can time-travel can figure out a way to do it. Or maybe he simply promised the nearest few Ork warbosses a propper fight if they an survive the Nids - make them want to prove themselves.

Tau are my only other option tbh, despite their 'greater good' sugar coated lies which the farsigh enlave has seen through i still believe the ultra, tau alliance was fractured by the means of alpha legionaries posiong as ultra marines thus breaking the codes of conduct.

Tau may be young, but boy are they asset as opposed to the weldar who may serve us now then murder us later. ( depending on which way they throw the rune stones)
