Help Choosing My word Bearers paint scheme

Recommended Posts

After painting word Bearers for ages now, and never being happy with the over all paint scheme, I recently painted a biker in one scheme, and today Im painting a new CSM in order to decide how best to take my army forward.

I personally love painting things crisp and clean, but the issue I have with that is it doesn't work for chaos, they need to be dark and battered. But I also needed to find a way of doing this which satisfied my "Crisp and clean" urges.

I think I've found it!

I want honest opinions, but I really enjoy painting this new kind of red, and I'm hoping to re paint my force this colour over time.

So basically, I'll post pics of the two variants of red and see what you all think.

New paint scheme:

Alternative paint scheme:

I personally think the biker is too "clean" for a chaos marine.

I'd go with the first one, maybe darken him up in a few key areas with some more grungy washes or even a light red wash to tone the highlights down just a bit, the you can also add some weathering powder to give it even more of that battleworn effect.

I think the first scheme looks the best as well. To get a little more dinginess going on, you might try either weathering powders as suggested above, or like Mr. Cheapo (i.e. me) go to a local art store and get some artists charcoals. You can scrape these off with you X-acto knife and then mix them with rubbing alcohol, then paint on with some interesting effects.

Great work so far!
