Inquisition/Deathwatch Stormraven

I bought a Stormraven a week ago and have just finished extending body and tail 1.25" each. It now looks well proportioned and more like a mini-Thunderhawk.

I have an Ordo Xenos force based on the Witch Hunter Codex but with Storm Troopers and no Sisters of Battle. So far that force can't use Stormravens other than in friendly games or Apocalypse.

The model will carry either an Inquisitor Lord and Retinue, a squad of 6 Deathwatch Terminators

or 10 Deathwatch Stern Guard and an independent character. The rest of the Ordo Xenos troops have 3 Valkyries and 2 Arvuses for aerial transport. A second Stormraven will be bought and 'stretched' for my Red Hunters Space Marines.

The weapons load-out for the Inquisition/Deathwatch Stormraven will be a Typhoon Missile Launcher, twin-linked lascannons, and Bloodstrike missiles. The Hurricane bolters look impressive but it's unlikely that both would be able to train on one target, so the TML is probably more useful.

Thanks for the photo posting info. I took several photos yesterday that show how the hull and tail were extended, plus the new turret and modified topside air scoop. Will try to post them tonight. Interior is painted and exterior primed so there should be photos of the completed model in a week or so.

The stretched Deathwatch Stormraven is complete except for a repaint of the small bow lights and sensor lenses which don't have the right effect (I need a new 00000 brush).

Decals include black/yellow warning chevrons on the vector jet housings on nose and wingtips and on top of the extended tail aft of the scoop's exhaust vent plus heavy support insignia (from SM and IG decal sheets), Inquistion decals and blocks of script (from Witch Hunter decal sheet), Vraks campaign badges and ship numbers (from FW Imperial Guard vehicle and Seige of Vraks decal sheets).

I'll shoot some photos this evening and try to post them with the WIP photos.

If it is a DeathWatch aset, it would be completely black, with the insignia of the Inquisition barely discernable (as described in BL paperbacks). The cheverons and anything other than jet black (baddab or whatever variations of black there are out there) would be "out of character" as it were. There is no variation among the DeathWatch as there is in the Astartes.

Just sayin'.

I considered leaving the model black with minimal Caradon Granite dry brushing and dull red Inquisition symbols (from the Witch Hunter decal sheets) but it was like a black void on the table. To justify more visual punch I came up with some fluff:

The Stormraven model represents an Inquisition asset on Vraks being used to carry Deathwatch SMs, so it's a little more dressed up than a Deathwatch Stormraven would be.

If you look at Inquisition vehicles (including aircraft) in the FW Imperial Armour books they range from very dark grey/black with barely visible Inquisition insignia to quite garish productions with prominent symbols, iconography, gold trim and bright colours (like the Inquisition Landraider in 'Seige of Vraks III'). The Inquisition Valkyrie that used to be on the FW site and appears in the Anaphelion Project book was light grey with red panels and colourful Inquisition symbls in red, gold and white.

This model falls toward the darker end of the livery variants. Except for three white Inquisition 'I's about 5/8" high, the decals are nearly all SM shoulderpad size. The ship name and tail numbers are subtle (black numbers/letters with a thin white line around them). The only bright exterior colour is when it's got the side doors on instead of hurricane bolters - the doors have a red/silver/white FW Inquisition symbol which is relatively small (the discontinued ones that used to be available for Chimeras and appear on the above mentioned red and grey Valkyrie).

I'm about to start a second Stormraven model so may follow your advice and use the original scheme of black with red symbols. (The red 'I's from the Witch Hunter decal sheets look very dull on black.) This one will be used to transport Deathwatch SMs in the Deathwatch army or in a Red hunters army (which always has at least one Deathwatch unit attached).

Well that was a waste of 45 minutes. I created an album, opened the photo folder on my computer, selected the image I wanted to upload and clicked 'upload image' in the album. Nothing happened (dozens of times!). Occasionally I got a prompt for a URL address which was not apparent anywhere on my computer.

I am not very computer savvy but have uploaded dozens of photos to other websites. I don't know how to get my images to upload into the B&C album I've created.
