Seva
This is my LPC vow. I will post it there as well but I thought I'd post some stuff here as well. I am using a different style to my red this time than I have in the past. I hope you enjoy them. Comments and criticisms welcome. Especially the criticism part. Here they are so far..... http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/1497/picture001zn.jpg http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/7847/picture002rj.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/7924/picture003ii.jpg I thought I'd throw this preist into this mix but he isn't really part of the vow as I started him a bit before the vow came about. http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/2173/picture004eb.jpg Any criticisms welcome. http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/3373/picture005pj.jpg Obey the Emperor. Seva
Yellow is a fun color to paint. I think the crucial thing about it is to decide what color you want, warm or cold. I started these helmets with snakebite leather that was really thin. I then added some iyanden darksun to the mix, about 3:1 snakebite-darksun. Glaze that on a couple of times and then start adding bad moon yellow. Just use the same ratios until i start adding white. Its all a matter of where you want to stop. I think i could go further than I did with these guys and I might if I have the time. If you want a cold yellow use a gray for a base and then go from there. Hope that helps. I have added some more red to the Assault squad and took a more close up picture of the guys because you couldn't really get a good look at the eyes. Here they are. http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/5312/dsc02648xl.jpg Here is the priest. The sword is supposed to be a power sword but I don't know if it's working too well. http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/9352/dsc02650oq.jpg Here is an Inquisitor that I did for my son for Christmas. http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/3470/dsc02649of.jpg http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/2079/dsc02645b.jpg http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/414/dsc02646ky.jpg http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5973/dsc02647xl.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222465-sevas-lpc-2011/#findComment-2659289 Share on other sites
Seva
Here is some more progress on the Assault guys. I would like to know what you all think about the color on the robes. I don't know if it works, and if it doesn't, do you all have any suggestions on how to fix it. Enjoy! http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8259/dsc02651o.jpg http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/3559/dsc02652zq.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/8871/dsc02653u.jpg http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/9315/dsc02655k.jpg The white didn't work at all so I change it in the next set of pics. Seva
I changed the coloring on the robes and and I am just doing detail work here and there. Struggling on the power weapons. The green power weapon has a bunch more to go yet. Enjoy. http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/2968/dsc02659x.jpg http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/8287/dsc02656j.jpg http://img573.imageshack.us/img573/2606/dsc02657.jpg http://img840.imageshack.us/img840/903/dsc02658fr.jpg More to come. My recipe for the yellow I change up quite a bit depending on what I have available. For these helmets I started with snakebite leather as the base for them. I then worked it up to the yellow I liked using bad moon yellow added to the mix as I went along. The final highlights I mix in some skull white and apply it to the edges of the helmet. Sometimes I will use some washes on the guys but with this batch of yellow I didn't. I liked the way the shadows just sort of appeared as I was going along. I have been trying a new way to get to red for these guys. It is a great deal quicker than the normal way I do red. I'm still in limbo as to what technique I think yields better results. The way I do it now is quite a bit faster so I may stick with it, still not entirely certain. The highlights on this red were done using dwarf flesh mixxed with red and then bleached bone on the most extreme parts. I bought some vomit brown so that will make an appearance next time around. Thank you for all the comments. They help keep me going. I still have a bit to do on these guys. I think I will do more on those damned power weapons. They still just aren't right to me just yet. I think I am close though. I am using Midnight Runner's way of doing power weapons so all thanks to him for the inspiration. Hope you enjoy what I have done so far and please rip the models apart as I want to get better at painting. http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/269/dsc02662o.jpg http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/4977/dsc02663m.jpg http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/6527/dsc02665jz.jpg http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8922/dsc02666vk.jpg http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/8509/dsc02668m.jpg http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/3222/dsc02669k.jpg http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7084/dsc02671iu.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/8814/dsc02672k.jpg http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/4664/dsc02673.jpg http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/1979/dsc02674l.jpg http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/9630/dsc02676zm.jpg http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6390/dsc02677j.jpg All the writing and chapter symbols are free hand by the way. I think it adds a little to the models. Thanks for looking. Seva
I have been painting a bit more. I am still fretting over the power weapons. I think it might be my camera set up but then again a bad carpenter blames his tools so I figure I still have a long ways to go before I can feel satisfied with my work. The models are pretty much finished. I have little bits to do here and there. I should probably bring some highlights up more. I will have to figure that out while still keeping the colors subtle. Tough choices to make. Here they are so far. I am proud of the yellow on the backpacks. I actually think that looks O.K. From now on I think I will use either red or green for power weapons. I don't like the blue with the red. Something is off in my execution of the blue. Purple might look good. I'll have to see. Here are the models. Enjoy. http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/5231/dsc02704nh.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/2915/dsc02695nj.jpg http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/8002/dsc02696zt.jpg http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/3787/dsc02697d.jpg http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7852/dsc02698l.jpg http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/6075/dsc02699j.jpg Tear them apart!
