Dosjetka
So, I'm poking around C:BA trying to find a 1500 point army list that I actually like and would enjoy playing with. I came up with this question: Should I take Tacticals, make them footslog/stay behind and put my Assaults in Rhinos or should I put the Tacticals in Rhinos and leave my Assaults with jump packs? A friend of mine told me the best thing would be an all-Troops-in-Rhino list but I can't afford that, so I'm stuck with this dilemma. Any help would be greatly appreciated :woot: Ludovic Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222473-which-is-better-in-a-rhino/ Share on other sites
SamaNagol
The optimum would be all Assault Squads in Razorbacks. It's cheaper (points wise) and you retain a heavy weapon without giving up any mobility. Rhinos have their uses for big Death Company units or maybe a single full size Assault Squad to grab an objective on its own. Other than that you are probably better served running Razorbacks or Land Raiders. Redfinger
I like the idea of tacticals and Razorbacks, supported by RAS...let me explain. 250pts is like the magic number....250 points gets you a 10man RAS w/ PF melta x 2 and a hand flamer, if you combat squad that is one anti tank team and one so/so cc team. 250 points of tactical squads get you a 10man squad, 1 melta, 1 ML 1 RB w/ twin-linked heavy flamer, a combi melta and a hunter killer....now you combat squad the tacticals you get one static objective sitter and a nice tank hunting team w/ RB support....now drop in some jump troops and you got the nice beginings of a hybrid army going..... SamaNagol
I also find that my marine lists break down into 250pt groupings at 1500 and 2000pt size lists Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222473-which-is-better-in-a-rhino/#findComment-2659397 Share on other sites
BrotherMoses
I prefer tacticals in rhinos and assault marines in jump packs. I like the tactical flexability of jp marines. You can doa them in as a 10 man squad or combat squad. You can choose to arm them with flamers or meltas for antitank or antiinfantry use. JamesI
Personally, I like Assault marines with jump packs supported by Assault Marines in rhinos (or Razorbacks) I'd use Tacticals in rhinos, but they are more expensive than the Assault marines in rhinos. Dingareth
Assault Marines in Razorbacks. They get 2 Melta/Flamer shots at 5 guys, backed up by a mobile heavy weapon on top on the Razorback. Even if you can't afford buying Razorbacks right now, it's wort it to save up the money to get them- rather than just going out and buying sub-par choices. If you're going mech, you want full, or just about full mech- 1 Rhino is just asking to get blown up. BLACK BLΠFLY
I dont see much value in the tactical squad. Five man assault squads in razorbacks seems the best way to go for mech. Red Fury
We all know Razorback Assault squads are great, but to answer the OP, I say keep the JPs on the RAS and mount the Tac squad in the rhino. 20 marines is nothing to sneeze at regardless if they are assault or tactical or a combination. One thing the tactical squad can do that the assault squad cannot when mounted is; move 12" disembark and rapidfire bolters into high Initiative, squishy targets, like Eldar and Tyranids. You may not get a whole lot of use out of the free heavy weapon upgrade, but it's there just in case, plus he has a pistol to contribute to the flurry of bolter rounds. On the other hand, the Assault squad would not be able to charge after moving in the rhino, so they are much better off keeping the JPs to get their 12" move and still be able to charge. Dingareth
But guys outside of tanks- jumping around even- are exposed to the whole of your opponent's anti-infantry firepower, while your few Rhinos are exposed to their full anti-tank. You're better off full mech, or full jumpers- not some awkward mix. Ebsolom
It depends on how competitive your environment is and whether or not you plan to play in tournies. If on the otherhand you're more into the fluffy side of things and for casual play I'd go for Tac squads in Rhinos. Call me old fashioned but I always run a Tac Squad or two in Rhinos kitted out with either Melta, MM, Combi-Melta and PW (250) or Plasmagun, Plasma cannon and Combi-plasma (245). I use the first for midfield support and anti-mech whilst the second is usually run as an objective sitter. Both squads don't leave their transport, utilizing the top hatch fire point until it is wrecked/ destroyed or there is a juicy squad that is just asking for some rapid firing goodness to soften them up before my RAS assault them. I'm more for casual play, for the moment at least. I also take Tacticals in Rhinos, though with C:SM. This is my first steps into C:BA, so I wasn't sure if it's the same kind of play Tactical Squad-wise.
