Stormraven Gunship Options

Hi Guys,

1st post chaps...

Sorry if a repeat question but didn't find any other post covering it:

1) What options are provided in the new Stormraven kit? Are all the options listed in the C:BA covered by the kit?

2) I'm thinking of an all-out Anti-Armour load-out for mine, as I am lacking long range punch from the rest of my army. Anyone care to tell me of their successfull (or utter fail) experiences with this type of load-out?

Cheers Guys!

AFAIK, all the weapon options from the codex are in the kit. Latest WD has pictures of various load-outs and I think they're all there.

Thanks for the quick response. Don't have the new WD (I made myself swear the NEVER buy that thing again!), and can't tell for definite from the pics up on GW website.

I haven't tried it, but if you do some mathhammer on the assault cannon versus the lascannon, you'll find that except for the range, the AC is a better antitank gun. So unless you're not gonna use it for assaulting at all, you best bet for busting tanks is probably assault cannon and multi melta.

Yeah - I was mulling it over in my head today and I came to the same conclusion! TL AC would be very good for some anti-infantry fire as well as being nearly as effective as the TL LC vs tanks. That's that decided!

Thanks.

The kit has all the weapon options provided from Codex: Blood Angels.

The kit is quite possibly the best plastic vehicle kit Games Workshop has put out to date. Great detail on a lot of the pieces, they all go together very well, and it's a pure joy to assemble.

My only beef with this kit, and it's minor at best, was the Dreadnought transportation system. It's a molded hoist and winch panel underneath the tail section of the Stormraven. Not sure how GW could have made it better, but it's almost like an afterthought piece.

Still, excellent kit! Even if I didn't play Blood Angels, I'd probably get one just to assemble and paint (kinda like what I did with the Imperial Guard Valkyrie- and I don't play IG).

Quoting myself from an older post on Stormravens. I've been playing with them in my lists for quite some time and my below comment sums up my views on them really.

I don't see the stormraven as beening designed as a long range gunship , its an assault vehicle which provides firesupport after it completes such a role , Its effective range lies in the >24" mark , where it can support troops/transport them late game for objective grabbing or as a brute force assault vehicle getting straight in your opponents face within the first two turns. It should not be used as something which sits back and shoots transports , its far too expensive to commit to such a role where it can die easily.

An autocannon/lascannon predator does the role of long ranged anti tank far more effective and for a much more reasonable price tag , as well as being able to use cover far more effectively.

I can add to your beef's...

I agree it's a great kit, fun to build and paint but...

1) Dreadnought Transportation not up to standard of the rest of the kit, just looks like an afterthought.

2) Rear opening door is not good, the hinge mechanism is not well thought out and on most models will end up being glued on, to avoid being lost

3) The upper turret cannot be removed once the air intake is glued on, the weapons and their covers prevent the turret from fully rotating and you can never reach the keyed part to remove the turret.

4) Also the front cockpit cover needs some work to fit cleanly, even the GW models in WD have great gaps at the lower part on either side of it.

But, when fully built, it looks great and is very imposing on the battlefield, scares the hell out of opponents!
