Grimfoe
So. I've put some of the nonsense of life behind me to some extent and I'm getting ready to start playing competitively this season. Of course, I'll only entertain using the Sons of Russ, and I'm wondering who else from the Fang is looking to test their mettle abroad, and where. I'm based in Upstate New York. I'll be playing at tournaments within a few hours of here. (of course, I'll have to travel a little farther once we cream the local competition) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222487-2011-tournament-circuit/ Share on other sites

littlbitz
Right now I only have 2 larger Tournaments that I plan on attending this year (I don't count the local one-day Tournaments) I'll be at the Conflict GT in Princeton NJ in April, and I will be attending the Mechanicon in Pa in November. I'd love a pick up game or two, if you are going to be there let me know. I wasn't really planning to start until June or so, but if it works around my kids' baseball/softball schedules, I may take you up on that. I googled the event and couldn't find very specific info. How many points are allowed for the tourney? It looks like they already have 60 participants. Do you know if they are capping the number of people that can enter? Thanks. Stormbrow II
Warpcon just finished and I did relatively poorly: I blame Captain Morgan. The next tournaments here are Dominion Day 4 up North next weekend (which I can't make), Itzacon in Galway and Retcon in Dublin both of which are in March. If I do well in the latter I might well be off to Switzerland in August for the European Team Championships. All with the Wolves of course. If there are any tournaments in-between I'll be rocking the Grey Knights (Slaanesh CSM using the new Codex because Chaos is *boring*). (I can't really fault you for playing CSM, the only GT I ever entered was with Black Legion) Good luck. My Iron Warriors have alway been my main force, the one I am well know for though out the fourm & tournament scene, as well as one of Graham McNeill favrout army when he saw my force that Conflict Scotland 2005. I'll be bring them back out in Oct for the UK Throne of Skulls, one of the main reason is marking there tenth year of collecting. It like anyone who has that one army that really stand out for them, Iron Warriors are that army for me :D As said there almost ten year worth of collecting, I been in the hobby for 14 years. While the Wolves are defo up on my top armies as well. Really like the background, been one of those armies that stood out when I started the hobby 14 year ago. Most of all they allow some great conversion which is the main reason for me to pick any army :D I like my armies to be notice for the conversion, painting & overall work put into them, as why happy to be winning player chose awards for best army, being 2nd or in the ToS in Nov being part of the top 10 nominee. I really enjoy useing the Wolves since 2009 when play testing my list. Really happy with how the force has turn out, you can see some of the battle report kicking about here from last year tournament session. Got a whole host of new conversion line up for my Space Wolves for the April Throne of Skulls so there somthing a bit new to the force. Just overall I really enjoy attend tournament :D IP Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222487-2011-tournament-circuit/#findComment-2660713 Share on other sites

IP How are you finding Throne of Skulls now the format has changed? This year my Wolves have attended the Caledonian open at Maelstrom having a dismal opening day performance but recovering enough to gain a midtable finish. I shall be attending the Indy GT next month and then Open war (both at Maelstrom) in March and April respectively. I am also through to the Semi's of the first company vets club championships and if anyone has attended open war you will know that there are some decent players there and I'm still not quite sure how I got there. Grimfoe
Also, is the Throne of Skulls really using 2500 points? That seems a lot of points for a tournament, kind of hard to manage I would think. I can already see my sportsmanship score going down while I'm waiting for my opponent to get his move done. Space Wolves aren't exactly known for their patience. :D @ Durfast: That's a fair point. I guess we're the ones representing overseas on this side of the "pond." Iron-Daemon Forge
Grimfoe Posted Today, 10:39 AM Also, is the Throne of Skulls really using 2500 points? 1500pts & will be up to 1750pts in Oct for the Uk side of things. No idea if rest of the world follow this as well?? How are you finding Throne of Skulls now the format has changed? I though it was alright, a few thing I though where a bit faulted hae apprently been sorted, for me it was, bare in mind this is from Nov ToS - Mission we roll for them. So for exsample I got four spearhead set up, no kill point mission Just I got pretty sick of spearhead set up as it did not help for though out the month after ToS, that all I ever got in friendly games, came to a point I said to oppent I'd ignore spearhead set up. + This has now change to the event team roll for everone like the old days. So pretty happy. That pretty much my only picking point, but as said it has been change. Just nothing more off putting than battle same mission/set up none stop. Other than that I felt it was alright & enjoy Nov - Great Food, not as good as 2007, but it was really decent, I was happy & well feed though out the weekend. I was happy as it was stuff I could eat. Just I need to watch out with some food as I can become really unwell, in 2008 & 2009 there was nothing I could eat dispit writen a letter to Andy Joyce who was in charge back that the time, he ignore it, when I bought up the issue of me & some food his comment was "you should have sent a letter" lucky I had a copy of the letter on me, exsplain I already sent one but had this copy just incase. 2006 GT a exsample when I was really unwell as the food was terrible, I refuse to have Sat night dinner & Sun launch. I was really unwell though out the Sunday of the UKGT. But I really enjoy the food in Nov ToS. - Five games, this help me a lot & those who also travel. I was back home by 10pm after the awards instead of 1am. Felt a lot better on the Mon. My friend who drove us to the event felt a lot better as well. If people want more games then we do have the whole of Fri & Sat to be honsty to get extra games in. But again just made a big diffrence, also round 6 you do tend to feel really tired. Like wise help my friend once more when drive back in term of missing the traffic, etc... as we tend to found 6pm to 7pm to be really bad on the road going back up to Scotland. - I enjoy all five games Overall getting top 10 best army nominee for my Wolves kept me happy over the weekend. Like wise when battle two Norwegian (sp?) oppent they where brillaint oppent. Round 2 being my most bloodiest game vs Khorne Daemon force, was like re-fight Armeggedon (sp?) only one Wolf Guard & a few tank for me, oppent had five Bloodletters. It been agies since I had a game where barely anything alive on both side. Thankful that there is no longer Vpts from the old 4th ed day, people hide more, I want to go out & kick teeth in with my armies, I hate hide, I want to get into Combat!!! Overall I enjoy the weekend. Seen a lot of stuff has improve. I feel the only way to get thing right is for people to attend & give that good feedback, as said the thing I though where not to great but where not terrible, they all got change for the Jan Throne of Skulls & made it sound really cool & I'm hype to see what April ToS will offer. Don't be whiney for exsample (just from some of the topic I seen on other fourm) gits who hide behind a screen & moan & moan none stop & saying how they'd refuse to attend ToS no matter what changies happen, yet moan to death even more on the matter, not just simple ignore the topic/event they do not agree on. What that going to get them other than to make us pretty much go :D when reading there comment on ever ToS topic. I'm really fed up of all the anti GW/moan on the fourms, where the cool armies project log or great battle report, that why I join the fourms & to talk about this great hobby of ours to get futher idea. As said go to the events, give feedback that great & can support, who know the changies might happen. As said a lot of stuff change from the Nov ToS that I felt where not to great, but they change to better stuff for Jan, come April it will even be more cool. On top that as said above Oct ToS will be going from 1500pts to 1750pts!!!! Well worth going to one. As said I'm going to April as I enjoy Nov ToS. Like wise will also be going to July due to my cousin live near Nottingham getting married. Then Oct Throne of Skulls with my Iron Warriors to mark there ten year of collecting along with my friends who I usely go to the UKGT since 2006. Again I enjoy Nov ToS, you can see my report kicking about on the fourms. Had five great games, Khrone Daemon battle standing out for me due to how much was left. Was happy to get best army nominee as that mainly my aim. Just felt a bit more rush than anything else though out the event. Would recommend people try Throne of Skulls that least once before past finial judgement. Iron-Daemon Forge
First tournament of 2011, Warhammer 40k double in Warhammer World. Gaming did not go so well, but they where all brillaint & very epic. Many Saga for my Space Wolves have been earn though out the weekend. Despit being allie with Dark Angels, the -1Ld for distrustful allies never effected me that much. Jaws of Wolf a Ork Warboss, was more down to because they roll a 6 so no matter what. Should be getting my report up soon. Grimfoe
That is not a color scheme I would have chosen, but I really like it. I've just started the process of repainting my entire army. Not the detail work, but the armor. The bulk of my army was painted in the 90's, and I used the blue-grey that matched the 2nd edition codex. The newer codices are still rather blue, but not as much as that codex. In either case, I'm working on test minis to establish the grey that I'm going to use for my armor. I don't think I'll go as dark as you did, but your paint scheme is very distinctive and looks great on a table. Yes with the colour, I just preffer dark colour ;) Bit like the front cover of the codex. Help make the army stand out & with the contrast of the blue viking rune & strong highlight just add that contrast to the dark colours. But as said just preffer dark colour :) If I done a Ultramarine army it would be regal blue rather than Ultramarine blue like Eavy Metal team army for exsample.
