Redfinger
So I just finished the major assembly on my new dread and Stormraven and I am looking at it trying to figure out a couple of things, and I am wondering how other may have done it. 1. On the stormraven, has anyone magnetized the hurricane bolters yet? I am seeing two possible options, attach the reagular doors , put a magnet on the outside of those and then attach the hurrican bolters, this will make them stick out a little wider, but seems simple. The other option is to use plasticard or sprue on the inside of the SR and be able to switch the doors/hurrican bolters as needed...Thoughts? 2. On the dread, there are 4 fists and talons and "fingers" so really if you can figure out how to magnetize the fist ends, you could basically switch between blood fists and blood talons as needed, and one looked at that? 3. Librarian v. Furioso...I would love to be able to change the front plate as needed, anyone figured out the magnet placement for that yet? THanks Ashton
SnorriSnorrison
I can only try to answer your first question...I've started to magnetise the normal doors, drilling out the hinges at the bottom and placing the magnet in there. Then, on the 'raven itself, do the same thing at the opposite position on the door frame. It might get a litte curt because the hull's armour is not tht thick at those points, but I'll try anyway. So, for the hurricane bolter system, the hinges do not touch the acutal frame where the magnets for the normal doors would have contact. I'll try to just glue the magnets on the inside of the bolter system mounting, hoping that it will fit in the end. If it won't, I'm gonna fix it with a little help from my friend Mr. Green, Green Stuff. Yeah, that's what I came up with. Snorri

THanks Ashton Heh, I actually considered and am satisfied with 2 of the three. 1. On the Raven, I placed a piece of plasticard across the door on the inside and then attached Rare Rarth magnets to it. (Note: my interior won't be visible). I place rare earth magnets on the backs of the hurricane bolters and on the plasticard I think I stacked two on the plasticard, but it was due to the size of magnet i had. (Originally I tried magnetic sheets in both places but it didn't work as they weren't close enough or powerful enough. 2. Again, using rare earth magnets, I placed one inside the claws/fists. For the arm magnet, I chopped the round plastic where the claw normally sits and drilled a hole in the edge of the dread arm for the magnet to sit in. The magnet doesn't look exactly like the piece that extends into the claw that I cut off, but it's pretty darn close. 3. Unfortunately, I'm currently using poster putty! I think I'll end up placing plasticard on both pieces and putting magnets opposite each other on the plasticard, though I'd love to hear an easier method. Kurb
Filled the front covers with greenstuff and stuck a magnet in that for the dreads.
Isryion
Filled the front covers with greenstuff and stuck a magnet in that for the dreads. Doh. Good idea. I'm obviously no magnet expert. Did you fill the entire front or just the parts where you placed the magnets?

Did you fill the entire front or just the parts where you placed the magnets? I shall add picture...gimme 5 mins. Alright in the picture below see I just superglued a earth magnet to the body. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y184/thekurb/420188371_photobucket_45316_.jpg Then I took all the front plates, filled in the "sarcophagus" with greenstuff, squished another earth magnet, triple checked I had it right, and the put a drop of glue on top to seal it. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y184/thekurb/420188371_photobucket_45317_.jpg Not the prettiest thing in the world and I totally could have done a neater job, but you can't tell a thing is different when the fronts are on. Still tinkering with a way to magnetize the claws/fists. Honestly I about to say fudge it and just run with the talons all the time, and when I want them to be bloodfists I will point to the dread and say "Hey, these are Blood Fists aight ?" Magnetizing the StormBolter and Hvy Flamer should be pretty easy as well. You would need 6 magnets, a small hand drill. Just line up your holes with both weapons, drill, magnet, glue, done! Noobtank
i had some spare metallic sheet/mat so all i had to do is cut a piece (they are quite flexible) and pasted it on the inside of the hull.and then just glue 2-3 small magnets to the hurricane bolter door.the thing i like about these mats are that they are easy to cut (can even use a pair of scissors),flexible yet rigid enough to hold on to stuff and lastly i do not have to worry about polarity! just stick a magnet on and you are done heh.heres a pic http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv5/yusoff26/b1432476.jpg ps: bought em at my local hardwarestore, hobby stores have em as well
Morollan
Good to know that the Dread sarcophagus can be magnetised. I have a DC Dread already and another plastic Dread that I've magnetised the arms on so I can now build the new kit with magentised sarcophagus and arms and field it as either a Furioso or a Librarian. JohnCS
For magnatizing the hurricane bolters I found this video on you-tube: It worked well for me and the surgery seam at the top isn't visible after installed. Might have a clearance issue with forgeworld doors though. I didn't care for his approach in the second video on the turret weapons though - I left out the shaft and drilled out for 1/8" x 1/16" magnets
