narius
I've finally got round to building my Stormraven, Is it just me or does it look about 10,000 times better without the landing gear? Is there alternative to what you get in the box? I was thinking about building it with the gear up and buying a 2nd flying base but cutting down the clear stand so that if it where landed it's just be on a shorter stand? Does this sound like a good idea?

Not sure how your second idea would look though

This brings up an interesting point though, to make it easier to hide could one simply shorten the stand, thus putting it lower to the ground and possibly providing cover? YOu may lose some LOS ability but gain survivability? Ashton
narius
OK, i've been bold (And a little drunk) 5 minutes with my cutters and some glue and the Landing gear is retracted! 100% better IMHO.... I'm concidering 2 options: 1: Buy flying stand number 2, cutting it down to about 20mm and that could be used when the SR is landed. Option 2: Cobble together a new landing gear that either is like the Valkyrie wingtip gears or is mounted to the bottom of the wings on a thin strut. (Option 1 is probably the best. I can't believe how cool it now looks!

Ashton The shortened stand for me would not be used to gain an avantage as the SR would sit at the exact same height as it would on it's natural gear, although add the thickness of the oval base. Chairman_woo
Would I be right in thinking there are no rules to support a raven "landing" in game? i.e. it always counts as being on its flying stand, and "landing" behind some woods for instance would not be allowed? Yes, as far as i know the only race that can land is the Tau with their special landing gear.

Yes, as far as i know the only race that can land is the Tau with their special landing gear. Then how do foot-sloggers - to include our Dreads - ever embark/disembark? Maybe they just bungie jump!?! I'm going to add 12 ropes to my SR to indicate my Death Company's aptitude at Air Assault. And the harness for my Dread might bunch up in the crotch a little bit, but since the SR never lands... :P
Chairman_woo
Stormravens and valkyries for that matter should be able to choose what height they are flying at turn by turn IMHO. Sitting just behind a bush with just the guns poking out like an apache should be entirely viable (i.e. recives a coversave), as should actualy touching down to deliver your troops. The flyer rules in 5th are pretty embryotic tho I guess. I can see alot of opponents letting you set your raven down for a turn when you dismount tho, I know I would... Tabgoi
My plan when I pick a pair of them up was to remove the landing gear and then use those bits to make a better dreadnaught holder. Put some rare earth magnets in to hold onto a dread with them on its top, and just say its an electro magnet that holds the dreadto the SR. The larger foot print should make it look most like it is not just swaying in the wind.
Morticon
damnit!!! what a great idea. ><; Just glued the crapola outta my gear now though :( I also redesigned the turret! Looks much, much better. No silly spolier either!
