Chooser of the Slain?

I've ordered a set of the birds for CoS. I plan to cut em apart and model them on flying bases. But if someone doesnt like that they are too tall, then I can pop off the clear plastic rod and slot in a nifty (yet to be made) short tree limb that the CoS will be taking off from. It should make em shorter than an RP.

Okay I'm on my phone so if this gets "jacked" I didn't mean it.

Prior to my first peek at the new DE models, the simplest option for medoling CotS to me was to just use a Servo Skull. Readily available from GW and except maybe not being a very "flavorfulL option, certainly a do-able option fluff wise. Finding appropriately scaled flying critters from other gaming lines within and outside of GW has been a quest for many, best I can tell. I recently found a small collection in a bits box while I was looking for something else. I have NO idea where or when I acquired them and you'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon before I can get a picture posted. These new DE models will make this a far easier thing than it once used to be. Not having seen them first hand, the scale may be the only possible drawback. We'll see.

Did you perhaps get them from the plastic Devastators?

Okay, here are the things I found in one of my Bits Boxes. My recent Rune Priest for scale.

Left to right there is: an Eagle, Vilture, Crow, plastic Vulture, Servo Skull and Servo Skull with Iron Halo. These would make great CoS representations and the new DE releases may as well. GW does intend some crossover and once in a while they actually get things right.

I use the Raven/Crow thing found in the Empire General plastic kit. It comes modeled as being perched on a shield. I snipped off the legs and glued it to a 25mm base with a few odds and ends and it looks as though it's picking through the rubble for anything tasty left over. The second one I use is a servo-skull with the really long tails that are found in the Cadian Command Squad box.

Eagles are a good idea, but I think that a Raven or Crow would be a better fit with the celtic/viking SW vibe.

Just a head's up, I went to order these today along with some other junk (totalling over $50) and because the birds are a pre-order (I assume), it bugged the order and tried to charge me shipping. Removing the birds from my order corrected the issue. Just something to be aware of for anyone making $50+ purchases and expecting free shipping.
you know, call me crazy.. but I just thought of an idea for a chooser model. Although granted it's larger model than normal, how about having a Fenrisian carrying some war drums into battle that doubles as a spotter for the Rune Priest?!

Choosers are stationary and "immortal" throughout the battle. Not to mention you lose the mysticism behind it.

actually I was going for the cool factor, instead of a typical standard looking model. I imagined a chooser dressed in rags, covered in tribal tattoos who is seen constantly beating his war drums. Calling forth the sons of Russ, as packs of Grey armored warriors slowly march into the battle, ready to unleash their murder-make. I mean how intimidating would it be, for the enemy to see this lone brave warrior who is unable to be killed, while he constantly beats his war drums. Knowing that, the wolves will descend from the pits of Morkai and bring death to the enemies of Russ. But I guess your right! you lose out on the mysticism, especially the originality behind it all.
