Machine God
I have played a few games as Iron Hands using the Space Wolves list. < Ducks thrown Tankard > I used a Necromunda Enforcer's Gun Hound for a Chooser. Fred Johnson the 3rd jr
Oy, the boring and predictable bird-based chooser. They look cool enough, don't get me wrong, but everyone and their brother has some kind of bird as their Chooser of the Slain. I say think outside the box. Snake? Badger? Squirrel with binoculars? Ghost? Lawn gnome? Snowman? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222568-chooser-of-the-slain/page/2/#findComment-2669694 Share on other sites
Wulfebane
Oy, the boring and predictable bird-based chooser. They look cool enough, don't get me wrong, but everyone and their brother has some kind of bird as their Chooser of the Slain. I say think outside the box. Snake? Badger? Squirrel with binoculars? Ghost? Lawn gnome? Snowman? Being "Choosers of the Slain" directly (albeit incorrectly) links the creature to Norse mythology. More specifically to Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory). While they aren't actual choosers according to the mythos (that was the task of the Valkyrie), they were supernatural ravens sent out by Odin daily to retrieve information, essentially making Odin omniscient. They were also considered (by proxy of their naming scheme) to be related to shamanistic practice, in which Odin projected his mind onto the astral plane to attain this knowledge daily. Combine this with ravens being scavenger/carrion birds often seen on battlefields or hovering over abandoned carcasses... and that they're crazy good problem solvers (and simply badass looking) is likely why ravens are the preferred avatar for "Choosers". Aside from my above statement, I could see someone taking a sisters model and making a nice Valkyrie conversion out of it... paint it up all spectral and stuff and I bet it'd make for a very striking Chooser. Sven Dragonfire
Yeah im with you Fred... im going for the Ghost (mysticism) of a Snowman,(fenris refrence) with said binoculars (choosing), riding a giant squirrel (works for Canis) lurking behind a big lawn gnome ( under cover). Yeah! well it would certainly wind my opponent up, unless he's had his medication, actually a crow might be better for my health. Where's that link ..... G. A. K.
Okay, here are the things I found in one of my Bits Boxes. My recent Rune Priest for scale. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v457/tyggrr65/Models/DSC02150-Crop.jpg Left to right there is: an Eagle, Vilture, Crow, plastic Vulture, Servo Skull and Servo Skull with Iron Halo. These would make great CoS representations and the new DE releases may as well. GW does intend some crossover and once in a while they actually get things right. Those metal figures are from the 'Reaper' line of familiar models. I used a crow on a CoD lamp post. Tulkas
I was just wondering where those birds came from. That plastic Vulture, is that from a GW kit?
