BFG Chaos List

So we have a 40k Campaign Coming up that involved Multiple Sectors, and the only way

to travel to a new sector is to have a Gothic Fleet (Or beg a ally to move you)

Gives lots of good advantages to have a gothic fleet... so....

My Night Lords need a Ride...

Warmaster 1 Re-Roll

Despoiler

Repulsive

Acheron

2x Carnage

Devastation

2x Infidel

Any advice on changes? I need a all comers type list, I know there is a Marine Player, Nids, Orks and Tau.

Thanks

All comers Chaos lists don't typically include despoilers. Most chaos lists tend to follow this theme:

Desolator

2x Devastation

2x Acheron

2x Carnage

Some will also base their fleet around a hades and murder if they prefer more front firepower:

Desolator

2x Hades

2x Murder

2x Devastation

Most people avoid the repulsive and despoiler because of their speed. Escorts are also not common in chaos fleets, especially just two. That's basically free VP.

Drop them completely. You lose more by dropping cruisers to take more escorts as Chaos.

If you are really serious about using the despoiler, I guess you could try something like this:

Despoiler 400

Murder 170

Murder 170

Acheron 190

Acheron 190

Slaughter 165

Slaughter 165

Warmaster (50)

It's not quite as efficient as the desolator based fleets, but at least it gives you focused lances on the prow with the murders and despoiler if you decided to close and decent broadside support with the murders and acherons if you try to stand off. Keep the slaughters together and they can make a decent mess of things while taking pressure off the rest of the fleet. Be careful since they are pretty zippy and easy to overextend giving your opponent the chance to knock them out easily.

They are slower and far more expensive than desolators and Devastations can provide the AC ore cost effectively. That kind of makes them an odd man out especially since that nice S7 Lance to the front only comes into play at 30cm and you typically want a carrier hanging back out of the fight.

So after reading most of these responses... and noticing that the despolier can be made into a desolator easy (I just don't like how the desolator looks)

Repulsive

Carnage

Murder x2

Devastation x2

Desolator

I think with the fact that I have 9 torps with the Desolator and 6 out of the repulsive (15 torp wave) thats fairly big from what I can recall!!

and have some ships to play defense via the devastations.

That's a better list, but I'd seriously think about taking a Hades or Acheron instead of the carnage. The repulsive can handle the long range battery fire and having an acheron to go with the desolator or a hades to pair up with the murders will all work better than the odd carnage you have there.

Well what Vaaish has said in earlier post is very valid and generally spot on, in my opinion do not count out the despoiler in your fleet. I use mine as a line breaker in every list I have. The 7 lances locked on will tear down anything but a battleship and I use these coupled with the ordinance to punch through the enemies' lines. I'll always take 2 or 3 slaughters as they are cheap(er) and can free up points that I need for the despoiler. The bonus with the slaughters is that they move 30cm and can be my reactionary force pretty easily (and they pack a punch when squadroned in 2 or 3's)

Granted the desolator is the cheaper option and fills a specific niche in a good chaos fleet but the despoiler can also be used very well, especially against IN where the lances can strip off hits despite the 6+ bow save.

Just my $.02 :)
