Olis
That script-work is looking very nice, brother, especially on the book and the lower parchment on his left leg. That red kneepad stands out alot. I don't know whether it looks 'right' to me or not. Bah, it's probably just me. :) Keep going! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2745464 Share on other sites
AridMonk
The Red kneepad will look better when its got some decals stuck on it (when they arrive...), the kneedpads depict company on my marines, not shoulderpads. Really need to get my bits and pieces put down into the IA forums :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2745522 Share on other sites

AridMonk
http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo10.jpg Just a quick preview of what I'm working on, the Devastator (or Stinger Squads). Will post up the finished Loth when I get some decent light. Olis
Cool sarge there - the mk3 plate makes him look nice and chunky, and the Mk4 helm is an old favourite. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2776635 Share on other sites
death given form
You're Librarian is exceptional; the Mk. IV helmet looks great sitting in the hood like that. I'm curious, have you considered any further freehand on the model? The book is well done, but I think that perhaps some wards painted onto the flat surfaces of the armor (wards that mirror or are similar to the engravings on his legs) would work nicely. AridMonk
@Olisredan, Thanks mate. These guys are operating around the most explosive, most likely to malfunction and most dangerous weapons that the army can have, kind of made sense fluff wise to make them look like they have the most protection, hence the MK3 plate. @death given form, Thank you, I had considered it but going to wait until my decals are on and see what it look like, don't want to swamp the model wit unnecessary detail. In the chapter, he isn't regarded as one of the senior Librarians, and so to give him too much stuff would take some emphasis of that from some of the other Librarians I have planned. Also, didn't quite get him finished, but here is Loth as he stand's now: http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo16.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo15.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo14.jpg Trying to finish him tonight and tomorrow, just the bling bling and his pistol holster to do. Andrew J
How are you doing such tiny script that looks so good? Paint or pen? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2778129 Share on other sites
AridMonk
Paint, I find I have more control with a really really fine Windsor and Newton brush, size 0 or something, than I do with a pen.. AridMonk
Update time!!!... kind of. eBay has made me its bitch. Been trawling through hundreds of listings looking for deals, and have picked up some pretty solid ones so far, including a 25th anniversary Sigismund the emperors champ for £3!! Also got a Space Hulk Sergeant Lorenzo, some cheapo bits and one of the Masters of the Chapter. With all these HQ choices its a good thing im running the space wolf codex! So with these purchases I decided to do one of each HQ choice, to try and get a more solid feel of where im wanting to take this chapter - Ive already got the Librarian and the Chaplain, need the Captain and the Wolf Guard Battle leader, or in my case the 4th company's Emperors Champion. (Not using Sigismund for any of these btw, going to paint him up in true BT colours, would never defile a model of that calibre) So, first up the EC. Using the Master of the Arsenal model, I did a simple head swap with the claw n tail helm from the Severin Loth sprue, and trimmed his right arm down with a saw as to better accept the cut down arm of the Real EC model, with Black Sword and all. http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo12.jpg Still waiting on a couple of bits arriving for his left arm, will update when the arrive and I sculpt the forearm back on. Next up, my captain. Holy crap this red plastic is difficult to work with, doesnt cut well with the knife, doesnt file well, very very unforgiving stuff. Taking all the BA symbols off him was a pain, and sculpting over the damaged parts will be a bigger one, still trying to come up with a suitably badass weapon for him, might do an axe to try and make him Logan Grimnar, but have bigger and better ideas for that dude, so any help would be appreciated. http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/photo13.jpg Aaaand lastly a collective barely started - halfway there - almost done - need to finish shot of da bosses. http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/DaBosses.jpg C+C Welcome!! Retrograde
That does it, I've got to make slanted armour greaves like you did on the first page, it looks great. I tried it with plasticard back when I was afraid of greenstuff but they didn't look half as good as yours. AridMonk
@Keith: I just use a size 0, think the crafts store I went to didnt stock anything smaller. @Retrograde: Thank you, yeah the way I did mine was to first get a hold of some clayshapers, and then make sure that when you make up the green stuff use more blue than yellow, otherwise you will have a helluva time getting a nice sharp edge on it! @BioHazard: Keep your eyes on this thread, you may get your wish this weekend -_- Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2794863 Share on other sites
AridMonk
Hola. I've done some work on my champion, but have hit a snag. Having ordered some bits, namely in this case the hand holding a demon head from the grey knights sprue, I, in my idiocy, cut the hand from the metal EC model in preparation to receive the one whinging its way to me via Royal Fail, but got a bit of a shock when I measured them up... http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/ChampWithDaemonHeadTest1.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/ChampWithDaemonHeadTest2.jpg That emperors champion has some dainty girl hands. Bet he gets picked on by all the other space marines, not allowed to join in their games of smack the ork, poor fella. I do have another metal EC lying around which I could cut the arm off, but was saving that for a different project, so if anyone has any ideas on how to get around this issue, I would be mighty grateful. Also did the first layer of purple on the Sarge, very boring I know but I took a photo so here ya go: http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/SargeColourTest.jpg Reckon to get the colour I want it will be a 7-10 stage process, which isn't too bad seeing as my old nid army was a 17 step one!! Cheers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2800508 Share on other sites
Urb
Bet he gets picked on by all the other space marines Not when you have a sword like his waving around. That is a dilema when convertion pieces don't match scale. The purple guy looks good. Zoltar? Oh never mind. Retributis
Take the arm with the pointing chainsword, cut off the hand with the sword grip and replace the hand holding the black sword with it? AridMonk
Hrrrmmm, maybe I'll try and make some bionics for his hand with some plastic rods and things, or see if I have one pre-made lying around... Thanks for the tip Retributis, if the bionics fail then I think that may be the way to go ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/222782-aridmonks-wip-log-deathwing-18113/page/2/#findComment-2800983 Share on other sites
KnowThyEnemy
yea id recommend the cutting of the hand, had good success with doing that on my metal GK when replacing their swords with halberds. im thinking the sword has the hand attached to it with the grip, so all youd need to do would be chop the blade off and switch in the EC one. AridMonk
Poor Sevrin Loth has been looking out at me from his shelf all half painted and un-blingyfied, so tonight I took pity on him and finished him up all nice like. http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/SevLoFinishedFront.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/SevLoFinishedLeft.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/SevLoFinishedRight.jpg http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m549/AridMonk/SevLoFinishedRear.jpg Very pleased with how the gold came out, not nearly as complex as I was afraid it was going to be, I've never done gold before!! Tomorrows job - Build the rest of the 1st tactical squad. Wish me luck!
